Today and every day it is important that we all take a moment to practice self-care and kindness. Many individuals, including DV and SA survivors, may feel increasingly anxious or stressed today. Spreading kindness for yourself and others helps us all empower one another to create an environment where survivors feel comfortable asking for help. Last week we received a wonderful donation from an anonymous donor. The donor helped us stock up on more hygiene products, baby wipes, children’s books, and more! We appreciate all our community’s support as we prepare to continue providing survivors with resources throughout the upcoming holiday season.

As we close out Domestic Violence Awareness Month, remember that DV is not a “private matter”. DV impacts all of us and can happen to anyone. Survivors and victims can be of any race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, socioeconomic background, and age. You can play a pivotal role in a survivor’s path to empowerment and recovery. If a survivor discloses that they have experienced an assault, you can make a difference by being willing to listen and believe. You can convey support by saying: “I’m sorry this happened to you”, “I believe you”, or “This wasn’t your fault”. Domestic violence is any pattern of behavior used by one partner to maintain power and control over another partner in a relationship. To understand the issue of DV, we must know that DV is not always physical. Signs can include emotional abuse, isolation, threats, and more. Leaving an abusive relationship is not as easy as it sounds. Many complex reasons come into play when leaving an unhealthy relationship.
