Providing a safe place for teens to find hope, purpose, and direction.
About us
The Bridge Teen Center is an innovative grassroots nonprofit community center that was designed around the interests and needs of teens in the suburbs. We opened in Orland Park in 2010, and have served over 10,500+ different teens and families from 128 Chicago Southland and Northwest Indiana communities. Our mission is to provide free programs during after-school and unsupervised hours where students can develop mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually in a safe environment. The vision of The Bridge Teen Center is to provide teens with a place to find hope, purpose, and direction. We serve students in 7th-12th grade, and also provide ongoing programs and resources to help parents navigate through the teenage years. Because student safety is our primary concern, The Bridge is managed by experienced professionals who are supported by well-trained and pre-screened adult volunteers. We rely entirely on the volunteer and financial support of the community to provide 350+ FREE programs annually for students. Currently, our funding comes from foundations (23%), corporations (19%), churches (3%), individuals (25%), and The Bridge Thrift Store (30%). We take every investment in our mission to heart, and strive to maximize each and every dollar we receive. We are proud of the fact that for every dollar donated, 90 cents directly supports the students we serve. In every sense of the phrase, The Bridge Teen Center is built by the community, for the community. “This place has changed me as a person,” shared Bridge alumna, Kayle. “One memory I have from a Friday night event at The Bridge was of a staff member encouraging me to talk to new people and learn about them. From then on, I began to talk to more and more people and get to know so many new students, volunteers, and staff. The encouragement I received from that staff member helped me grow into the social butterfly I am today.” We are humbled to walk alongside students, just like Kayle, and see them grow into all that they were made to be! Marissa, a 10th grade student, started taking part in our Thriftastic Job Readiness program just this summer. When asked about how this program has made a positive impact in her life, she was very excited to share. “The job readiness program has really helped me to put myself out there more,” said Marissa. “I am more willing to talk in class at school and build relationships with my teachers. It has also helped me to grow in confidence and to plan out goals for my future.” We are so grateful to provide opportunities for students to develop new skills, connect with others, and grow. To get involved and support our mission, visit our website. ❤ * A different name was used for the safety and protection of our students. Last week, Inspired Title Group, Inc. , a title agency, visited The Bridge to lead an entrepreneurship program. During the program, students played some group games to figure out the best ways to lead themselves and then learned how they could apply these strategies in the future. After that, they had the chance to pitch some of their ideas to other Bridge students and discuss them together. It was an inspiring program and teens learned so much! Thank you Inspired Title Group for sharing your expertise and encouragement with Bridge students.
