Beyond Election Day, tomorrow is also a Compassionate Cannabis Day of Remembrance, Honoring, and Compassionate Gifting. The 11/5 Compassionate Cannabis Holiday is a dedicated day of remembrance, honoring, and compassionate gifting that acknowledges the foundational impact of compassionate cannabis on patient care and well-being. If 4/20 is the day to celebrate the plant and its culture, 11/5 is the day to honor the compassionate roots of the legalization movement and remember the brave patients and trailblazers who paved the way for safe and legal patient access to medicine. The Cannabis Trail celebrates 11/5 as a Compassionate Canna Day of Remembrance, Honoring, and Compassionate Gifting. Let us use this day to honor the pioneers, places, and stories related to compassionate medicine and the passing of Proposition 215: The Compassionate Use Act in California, and to share the plant's medicine with all those who need it. 🌱 On November 5th, 1996 - Proposition 215: The Compassionate Use Act officially passed into law in California re-legalizing medical use of the plant, a significant milestone of the legalization movement. And while this holiday gets overshadowed by the election this year, we hold space in gratitude for all those who put their lives and freedom at risk to fight for justice, compassion, and access, like Brownie Mary, Dennis Peron, and the AIDS patients and advocates who worked alongside them to open the world's eyes to the injustices of the War on Drugs and the potential healing power of the plant. The Cannabis Trail was recently highlighted as a Top Sonoma County Cannabis Travel Experience by Sonoma County Tourism. The Cultural Landmark at Riverside Wellness Collective honoring Brownie Mary is the cornerstone Sonoma County stop on the Trail, and Riverside in Guerneville was also the first dispensary in the County. Brownie Mary's "Bust Heard Round the World" in 1992 took place in Cazadero as she was making a batch of her famous brownies, which she gave out to AIDS patients in San Francisco.
