Contractors, up for a challenge?🚀 Don’t tell anyone how busy you are (we know you love to) until you’ve stopped wasting time on these three hiring black holes. ➡️ Initial Resume Filtering You can pay your 15-year old nephew $10/ hour to disqualify applicants from Taco Bell. Why are you, the business Owner, the most important employee in the company, spending an entire day doing it 150 times? If you’re doing the first round of resume filtering, stop. ➡️ Inaccurate Salary Postings You post a job, then wait a month for a qualified applicant to come in. Why? Because your salary is too low. Just because you’ve hired a PM for $80,000 doesn’t mean it’s a competitive, attractive number. The simplest solution is running some competitive analysis. Pull salaries from 10 competitors in your area (within 25 miles) hiring the same positions, outbid them (slightly), then watch applicants flood in instead of sitting on your hands for weeks. Scheduling Meetings You’ll probably need to schedule 10+ interviews to find the perfect candidate. Easier said than done. You’re flying from site to site, you never know when an unhappy client is going to demand your attention, and construction candidates are notorious for no-shows. That time wasted adds up fast. An office manager or EA works, but if you don’t have one, look into virtual assistants. They’re easy to hire – unlike Senior PMs. Tip of The Day: 45% of the hiring process can be safely delegated. I guarantee you’re not using it now⬇️. “Show me pictures of your favorite work.” If you go to the game with your friends, you take a picture. If you’re making a memory with your family, you take a picture. If you love what you do and you do a great job, you take a picture.
