This week the The New York Times covered an important and timely topic: the lesser-known dangers of cannabis use. If you're interested in learning more about what clinicians are seeing in treatment with our young adult population, find a link below to our recent interview exploring mental health impacts and #CannabisHyperemesisSyndrome with our Dorm DC Director Robert L. We had a fantastic time participating in The George Washington University's Student #MentalHealthDay! The Dorm DC had the opportunity to engage with students, providing resources and a simple "bubble meditation" 🫧 to raise awareness about how simple breathing exercises can help students manage stress during busy seasons. Special thanks to Assistant Director Christopher Davis, LPC and Therapist Anna Bergson, LGSW for representing The Dorm at this event. Initiatives like these are crucial in raising awareness of mental health resources available on campuses, and fostering a culture that prioritizes well-being. We look forward to continuing our partnership and supporting GW’s efforts in promoting mental health. Thanks for having us The George Washington University! Adequate rest is essential for young adults' mental health recovery. But how can we, as clinicians, support #sleephygiene in a population often juggling academics, early careers, relationships, and rapid change? This was the focus of last night's #2024RoundtableDinner, held in collaboration with Lindner Center of HOPE. We were grateful to guest speaker Michael Groat, Ph.D., and to all of our guests, for sharing their clinical expertise on this important topic. The goal of our collaborative Roundtable Dinners is to provide ongoing opportunities for mental health professionals to engage in innovative discussions and share ideas and resources for supporting our young adult clients. Thank you to everyone who joined us—we look forward to more opportunities to be together soon!

Spoon Theory, coined by author Christine Miserandino in 2003, explains the limited energy (or "spoons") we each have in a day. For those with chronic pain or illness, spoons may be limited, but there’s power in choosing how to spend them and communicating boundaries when energy runs low. 🥄 This is just one concept our weekly "Living With Chronic Conditions" (LWCC) group at The Dorm NYC explores. Special thanks to Dorm Therapist and Group Leader Gabriella Morace, who contributed to a recent article on how our #IOP care supports young adults with chronic conditions through specialized groups, individual therapy, and community support. What are the clinical implications of treating chronic suicidality in an outpatient setting? Last night, we had the honor of discussing this important question with fellow thought leaders at our #2024RoundtableDinner Series in collaboration with The Menninger Clinic. Special thanks to our special guest, Mychal Riley, for sharing your expertise in honor of Suicide Prevention Month. These discussions and resource-sharing opportunities are essential to improving client outcomes, and we greatly appreciate your ongoing insights. Our goal with these collaborative dinners is to foster learning and provide a space for treatment professionals to address critical issues that matter to our young adult clients. A warm thank you to everyone who joined us!

Discover thought leadership from one of our expert clinicians on #ADHDParalysis / #TaskParalysis👇 Thank you for your insight Sam Jaffe, LMSW, MSEd!
I was interviewed by The Dorm for a piece on task paralysis (or ADHD paralysis, if you're into SEO). Call it what you will: Analysis paralysis, blank page anxiety- it takes many forms and absolutely affects many more than just those diagnosed with ADHD.
