If you haven't heard of ARFID, you're not alone! ARFID is one of the newer clinically recognized eating disorders, though the behaviors associated with it have existed for much longer than its 2013 addition to the DSM-5. Unlike other restrictive-type eating disorders like anorexia, ARFID’s eating disturbances are not driven by a desire for thinness or body dissatisfaction. Instead, people with ARFID may avoid or restrict food for reasons like sensory sensitivity, fear of choking or vomiting, or a lack of interest in food. Have you heard of ARFID? What questions do you have?

When it comes to eating disorders, it can be easy to focus solely on the physical symptoms—but these illnesses run much deeper. On this #WorldMentalHealthDay, it's vital to recognize that eating disorders affect more than just the body—they disrupt emotional and psychological health, altering brain function and behavior. Reducing these illnesses to just physical symptoms can delay diagnosis and prevent people from receiving the specialized care they need. Stigma can also create barriers to seeking help, especially when symptoms aren’t always visible. Regardless of how someone may appear, their struggles with food and body are valid and deserve compassionate, evidence-based care. If you or someone you know is affected, take the first step toward healing. Contact us today by calling 1-888-364-5977 or completing our online form: https://ow.ly/6wGF50TIlpL Recovery is possible with the right support. 🧡

The Emily Program will be at booth #1729 and will present “Comprehensive Care for Binge Eating Disorder: Best Practices and New Approaches” at 10 AM on October 6.
