Here's a reminder that SDVOSB self-certification has--and this is the official, legal terminology--gone bye-bye. In this case, the apparent winning offeror for an SDVOSB set-aside opportunity was not certified by the SBA, nor had the offeror submitted a certification application by the "grace period" deadline of December 31, 2023. Being a needy boss often means requiring constant reassurance, frequent updates, and having a heavy-handed approach to management. This can lead to micromanagement, where employees feel suffocated by the continuous demands and lack of autonomy. Each unnecessary request or piece of feedback, no matter how small it may seem, adds to the employee's workload and stress level. Like straws on a camel's back, these minor irritations can accumulate until the employee's morale and productivity break down. The message here is about the importance of empathy and understanding in leadership. A good leader recognizes the weight of their demands and the impact of their management style on their team's well-being. By being considerate of their employees' capacity and providing them with the necessary space to work effectively, leaders can prevent the buildup of stress and avoid being the final straw that leads to negative consequences.
