The Feinstein Institutes has landed two spots on TIME's Best Inventions of 2024 list! iNav, invented by Daniel King MD PhD, Sandeep Nadella, MD, and Tiffany Zavadsky, CRNP, is an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered cancer detection tool that analyzes MRI and CT scans to identify patients at risk for pancreatic cancer, enabling faster diagnosis and treatment. https://bit.ly/3YHPHoT The Double Neural Bypass, from Chad Bouton and his team, combines brain-computer interface and neurostimulation technology to modulate brain and spinal pathways to promote long-term recovery after traumatic injury. In a first-of-its-kind clinical study, the technology—using implanted microchips in the motor and sensory portions of the brain and AI algorithms to reconnect the brain, body, and spinal cord—has demonstrated the ability to restore both movement and the sense of touch in a person living with paralysis. https://bit.ly/3YsibBz 👏 Help us congratulate our teams! New research published in Clinical Diabetes demonstrates the power of culturally inclusive clinical trials. We're highlighting Dr. Renee Pekmezaris and colleagues’ recent work at the Institute of Health System Science for #GlobalDiversityAwarenessMonth. This study shows that by culturally adapting tele-monitoring interventions for specific communities it can lead to better outcomes and participation – like what they did for a in clinical trial aimed at helping Latino individuals with Type 2 Diabetes. This inclusive study was designed to better reflect population diversity and ultimately achieve more equitable health outcomes. BEM Summit Announcement! 🚨 We’re thrilled to announce our partnership with Neuromodec for the upcoming Sixth Bioelectronic Medicine Summit: Neurotechnologies for Individuals and Communities. This collaboration builds on the success of the 2024 NYC Neuromodulation Conference and gives us an opportunity to enhance the dialogue around neurotechnology and neuromodulation. Join us on March 4–5, 2024, as we unite scientists, engineers, and clinicians at the Garden City Hotel. We’re excited to announce that Marom Bikson will bring his expertise to our discussions and moderate our panel session, “Commercialization in Bioelectronic Medicine and Neuromodulation.” Three posters will be nominated by our scientific committee and invited for an oral presentation during the symposium. If selected, your submission will also be eligible for publication in Bioelectronic Medicine, with submission fees waived. Register and submit your poster and abstract for a chance to be recognized at the Summit! https://bit.ly/4evIMF9 #BEMsummit #networking #research #neuroscience Stavros Zanos Hubert Lim

It's not every day Oprah Winfrey's team reaches out to ask about the vagus nerve and inflammation, but when they do, Kevin J. Tracey answers the call. #inflammaging
Inflammaging: chronic inflammation that builds up naturally as we age. Thank you, Cassie Hurwitz and Oprah Winfrey, for the opportunity to share the word of the week and discuss how the vagus nerve is key to controlling inflammation.
Experts Explain Why "Inflammaging" Might Be the Cause of So Many Health Issues

Exercise. Medication. Diet. And bioelectronic medicine? Feinstein Institutes researchers are studying the science behind weight loss with clinical trials looking at focused ultrasound as a potential alternative to weight-loss drugs like #ozempic and #wegovy. This innovative approach could offer a new solution for individuals trying to lose weight without the potential side effects of medication. This is how we honour our tissue donors! We do it by -literally- rebuilding them in a virtual universe, at nanoscale, and let them live forever. In a beautiful demonstration of quantitative nanoscale anatomy, we were able to show how Cell bodies and single nerve fibers look like in 3D - in a sample of Nodose Ganglion donated by a generous tissue donor. What you see is a 500 micron long and 400 micron thick piece of what we have already imaged and now in the process of reconstruction. We are in the very act of building the future in quantitative anatomy. We are building a method that lets us image entire peripheral neural structures in nanoscale, and quantify its anatomical, histological and morphological features. We are taking cadaveric human anatomy study to a new level. I am so grateful that I landed in such a great lab and among such great people - this was only possible with their help.
