Flex discs and cups can promise a non-toxic period!

View profile for Lauren Wang, graphic

Today I'm excited to share that all Flex Discs & Cups have been third-party lab tested and verified to be completely free of PFAS, lead, arsenic, cadmium, and mercury. If you know a tampon user and missed the news, toxic metals and PFAS (forever chemicals) have been found in organic and conventional tampons. The FDA does not require tampon companies to test for and disclose the presence of these toxins, and most brands merely state that their products are "made without" these toxins, as opposed to Flex’s ability to unequivocally state that its menstrual discs and cups have been tested by a third-party laboratory and DO NOT CONTAIN PFAS, lead, arsenic, cadmium, and mercury.  There’s no conclusive research yet into whether toxins in tampons are absorbed through vaginal walls, but it is well-settled that the mucosal membranes of the vagina are more permeable than skin. It raises the question: why aren’t more period product manufacturers and brands proving to consumers that their products do not contain unsafe ingredients? #toxicmetals #tampons #period #CPG #womenshealth #menstruation The Flex Co.

Breaking: Flex discs have reached a tipping point in consumer adoption. 🚀 Our incredible retail partners at Target Walmart and CVS Health have been working overtime to keep Flex discs and cups in-stock nationwide. We had already been experiencing double-digit growth before the study about toxic metals in organic and conventional tampons broke. If you are looking for our products and they are sold out, know we are restocking every day as quickly as possible. A huge shout out to my North American-based manufacturing and supply chain teams for continuing to deliver OTIF across all channels. 💪 Thank you Leslie Patton and Bloomberg for sharing our story.

    Reporter at Bloomberg News

Hundreds of Target stores have sold out of Flex Co.'s top items -- reusable menstrual cups and discs, and disposable discs. It's after a study in July found concerning levels of toxic metals like lead in tampons. Certain Walmart and CVS locations have had out of stocks, too. I talked to Lauren Wang, the CEO and founder of Flex, about how shoppers are increasingly shunning tampons for alternative period products due to health and environmental concerns. Her company is quickly ramping up production to meet the spike in demand, including hiring production staff to work nights and weekends. Read more here.

Are we at a turning point for period care right now? The fallout from *that* tampon study continues with The Flex Co. the latest menstrual disc and cup start-up to report that it has seen sales rapidly increase in recent weeks. Founder Lauren Wang told Bloomberg that the start-up is now making a MILLION MORE disposable discs per week than just a month ago. And it's left us wondering: once users try alternative products will they go back to tampons - even if further research confirms that they are safe? https://lnkd.in/eRQbM8Ca ______________________________________ 📩 Want a free round-up of women's health innovation and FemTech news like this each week? "While not everyone has experienced negative health issues from tampons the way that I did, the fact remains that we need more research like this across all spectrums of women's health. I hope that our collective outrage will lead to more funding for research because we deserve better than this. We are your mothers, sisters, daughters, granddaughters, partners, spouses, aunties, cousins, friends, and mothers of your children, after all." #tampons #womenshealth #periods #menstruation #cpg #menstrualhealth #womenshealthstartup #femalefounded

In the FIRST STUDY OF ITS KIND, tampons were finally tested for toxic metals. The findings were shocking. 14 major tampon brands (incl. organic) were found to contain toxic metals like lead and arsenic. Researchers found that "metals were present in all types of tampons; no category had consistently lower concentrations of all or most metals. Lead concentrations were higher in non-organic tampons but arsenic was higher in organic tampons. Metals have been found to increase the risk of dementia, infertility, diabetes, and cancer. They can damage the liver, kidneys, and brain, as well as the cardiovascular, nervous, and endocrine systems. In addition, metals can harm maternal health and fetal development." To UC Berkeley School of Public Health: my deepest appreciation for drawing the public's attention to this important topic. I started The Flex Co. because I was getting infections from tampons for 15 years. I felt that my concerns were brushed aside from doctors for years and I could never find any research on the issue. While not everyone has experienced negative health issues from tampons the way that I did, the fact remains that we need more research like this across all spectrums of women's health. I hope that our collective outrage will lead to more funding for research because we deserve better than this. We are your mothers, sisters, daughters, granddaughters, partners, spouses, aunties, cousins, friends, and mothers of your children, after all. https://lnkd.in/gXJCAR9f #tampons #womenshealth #periods #menstruation #cpg
