Throwback Thursday to 2014! Padelford Street over Route 24 – Town of Berkley (Bristol County, MA). Because the replacement of this key overpass bridge would have required a 2-year closure and impacted the daily life of citizens and commuters alike, a Design-Build method of project delivery was utilized by the owner, MassDOT. The successful bidding team of MAS Building & Bridge, Inc. and WSP chose an Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) solution as the best-value option. Fort Miller fabricated a total of (46) substructure units for this project, including; abutment footings, abutment walls, wingwall footings and walls, pier footings, columns, pier caps, and backwalls. A total of (8) prefabricated bridge units (PBUs) were also fabricated. Each PBU was over 106-ft long and weighed between 60 and 63-tons. Because the connection of the units relied heavily upon protruding reinforcing and splice sleeves cast at very tight tolerances, the entire bridge was pre-assembled at Fort Miller's Easton, NY plant to ensure proper alignment in the field.

Throwback Thursday at Fort Miller. Today we go back to 2005 when we fabricated and delivered (42) prefabricated bridge units (with decorative precast parapet) and (86) precast pedestals on Route 46 in Ridgefield Park, New Jersey. This was New Jersey DOT's Hyperbuild project that replaced a 6-span bridge in approximately four months. The general contracting team of Railroad Construction Company, Inc. successfully installed these bridge units. Structural Steel by STS STEEL INC Geoffrey Frazier, PE, MBA

Thank you Marc Glucksman for sharing this exciting photo of one of our precast prefabricated bridge units we produced for the MTA Park Avenue Viaduct project. This unit is one of 196 total bridge units we are fabricating for this exciting project. Thank you to the following firms for working with us: Halmar International Northeast Structural Steel, Inc. GCCOM CONSTRUCTION COMPANY, INC. STS STEEL INC Geoffrey Frazier, PE, MBA
What does this have to do with the railroad? A new section of the MTA Metro-North Park Avenue Viaduct awaits its evening slot to cross the George Washington Bridge earlier this month. This ongoing several year project will keep the structure in a state of good repair by replacing it in sections, and the work is being done at off-peak hours to minimize the interference with service. Oversize loads are brought across the GWB at night during a time when the Upper Level is shut down just for this purpose.
