We’d like to extend our gratitude to the panel of judges that generously donated their time and expertise to the Northwestern University student founders who competed at Jumpstart Demo Day! Sophia Wennstedt, Scott Tsangeos, and Emily Fallon Baum spent yesterday morning at The Garage hearing from 12 teams, ultimately decided who would take home first, second, and third place - awarding more than $17,000 in prize money! Another successful Demo Day is in the books! ✅ This year’s Jumpstart cohort impressed an audience of Northwestern University students, faculty, mentors, partners, and judges - pitching their startups for a chance to win from a prize pool of $20,000 in non-dilutive funding! Today we had the privilege of taking part in Impact Chicago '24 - a celebration of the vibrant Chicago startup ecosystem, hosted by Equal Innovation and sponsored by the Farley Center, Northwestern's Querrey InQbation Lab, The Garage at Northwestern University, The Rustandy Center for Social Sector Innovation, and Polsky Center at the University of Chicago. Over 20 local startups and entrepreneurs were in attendance, along with Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi and Lotika Pai, Chief Small Business Officer for the Chicago Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection. It was an inspiring day showcasing the depth and diversity of innovation happening in the Windy City. Farley Director Hayes Ferguson moderated a standout panel discussion featuring Farley alum Sophia Wennstedt of Blip Energy, Jose Javier Fernandez of Azul3D (a Northwestern spinout), John Sexton Abrams of nutrad, and Gary Ong of Celadyne Technologies. We also connected with the team from Yobee , founded by Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine faculty member Ruchi Gupta, MD, MPH. Huge thanks to the organizers at Equal Innovation and all our partners for hosting such a vibrant celebration of the Chicago startup community.
