When an employee qualifies for both Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML) and Short-term Disability (STD) it may result in over-insurance. This can impact costs and reduce incentive for employees to return to work. Learn how the coordination of these benefits can influence employer’s costs and allow them to offer attractive benefits that are accessible to more employees in this video: http://ms.spr.ly/6047mLcXR

Chairman and CEO at The Hartford

Today on #WorldMentalHealthDay, NAMI CEO Dan Gillison, Jr., and I are calling on business leaders around the globe to commit to improving mental health at work. When businesses prioritize mental health discussions, employees feel supported and safe to get help. In addition, they are equipped with important skills, such as emotional literacy, empathetic leadership, and resiliency. Healthy employees are good for business. In The Hartford’s 2024 Future of Benefits Study, 69% of employers said their employees’ mental health has a negative financial impact on their company. Poor employee mental health was estimated in 2022 to cost the U.S. economy $48 billion annually in lost productivity. We believe the future of work depends on responding to the mental health needs of the next generation of workers and it is important to enlist young adults as equal and powerful partners in finding solutions to today’s crisis. If business leaders are unsure how to support Generation Z workers, they can tap into NAMI StigmaFree Workplace, a comprehensive initiative to support employee mental health, and NAMI Next Gen, an advisory group that helps NAMI and its partners create programs, content and initiatives tailored for youth and young adults. While Gen Z workers are reporting more mental health conditions than other generations, they give Dan and me hope. We are inspired by young adults, like NAMI Next Gen, who have transformed their lived experience with mental health conditions into assets that are positively impacting their community, the workplace, and our nation. They bring refreshing perspectives, dynamic skills, and untapped energy to the challenge of tackling the ongoing mental health crisis. We hope today’s awareness day will spark the start of meaningful action among the global business community and this time next year millions of mental health allies will have joined our ranks. #MentalHealth
