The Endowments was happy to attend & honored to support Casa San Jose’s groundbreaking for a new community center in Beechview to serve the growing immigrant population. The nonprofit is expanding from its smaller headquarters a few blocks away, & will offer immigration case management, English as a second language classes & other resources to help support new neighbors. The Allegheny County Health Department recently released new numbers on how many kids in the county have lead poisoning. The results show 10 communities where 10-21% of the kids tested positive for lead, which can cause developmental delays. The good news: Many families can get free lead testing and remediation. Broke Babe Supper Club is hosting pop-up dinners offering vegetarian & vegan foods to communities of low income, artists & people of color. Advancing Black Arts in Pittsburgh provided a grant to the multimedia art project, created by Dominique Chestand & partly funded by the Endowments, to raise awareness about vegetarian/vegan recipes & resources working to alleviate food insecurity. Catalyst Connection just received $700,000+ to get more women into manufacturing jobs. Acting U.S. Dept of Labor Secretary Julie Su announced the National Women in Apprenticeship and Nontraditional Occupations grant at the Energy Innovation Center. “Really, we are working toward a day where there will no longer be nontraditional occupations for women, because opportunities everywhere for women are going to be the norm, and for women of color in particular, who have been left out for far too long.” Read more about the important workforce development:
