About us

The Lilac Review is a government-backed independent review, aiming to tackle the inequality faced by disabled-led businesses and level-up entrepreneurial opportunity across the UK. Spearheaded by Small Business Britain, the Lilac Review launched in February 2024 and will seek to identify the barriers faced by disabled-led businesses in the UK, and develop and action plan to remove them.

    The Lilac Review is being spearheaded by Small Business Britain who are committed to making all their campaign events as accessible as possible. To achieve this we have: ▪️ A BSL interpreter at all events. ▪️ Produced reports in plain text and audiobook format with executive summary available in BSL. ▪️ Captions on screen both at live and online events. ▪️ Made quiet spaces available for anyone who needs them.     Dr Mark Esho is a serial entrepreneur and member of The Lilac Review Steering Board. He runs several businesses as well as a social enterprise, and is currently setting up a foundation to mentor, support and offer financial help to disabled entrepreneurs. To ensure that The Lilac Review includes all available insight, views and data in its recommendations, it is open for submissions from any interested person or organisation that would like to contribute to its findings. The team will get back to you within 7 days to acknowledge your submission. In order to make this process as accessible as possible, please contact us if you need to submit evidence in another format.     The need for the Lilac Review was highlighted by the ‘Disability and Entrepreneurship report’, launched by Small Business Britain in March 2023 in partnership with Lloyds Banking Group. The report found disabled entrepreneurs face significant barriers to start and grow businesses, such as higher start-up costs, challenges accessing funding and support, as well as a lack of credit by wider society.
