About us

Loveland Living Planet Aquarium is a 501c3 non-profit organization that provides the community with countless educational opportunities to understand and respect our precious Earth and its living ecosystems, from the Utah deserts and mountains, to rain forest habitats, to the planet’s vast oceans. Loveland Living Planet Aquarium has become one of Utah´s most unique and popular attractions, and is definitely a must-see if you are planning a trip to Utah. Exhibits feature sharks, rays, seahorses and jellyfish as well as octopus, eels, piranha, a rescued Green sea turtle and Gentoo penguins! It is a unique opportunity for the many landlocked Utahans, particularly children, who have not previously had the chance to interact with such creatures.

  • It's finally that time!🐧 The top name suggestions for both of our gentoo penguin chicks are here! Drumroll, please... Female: 🎀Jemmi (in honor of Jemmi Creek in Antarctica) 🎀Aurora (Aurora Australis, the southern lights commonly seen in Antarctica) 🎀Gloria (popularized by the movie Happy Feet, set in Antarctica) Males: 💙Bentley (In honor of the Bentley Subglacial Trench, the lowest point in Antarctica, emphasizing a strong geographical connection) 💙Jack (Jack Bursey was an American explorer and sailor who played a notable role in early Antarctic exploration. He had an Antarctic mountain, Mount Bursey, named after him.) Now it's your turn to narrow it down to just ONE for each chick! The link to vote for the final names is in our bio. We will be contacting each person who suggested the chosen names to receive their TWO free Aquarium passes—a maximum of 2 tickets per individual. After the final two names are selected, we'll choose ONE lucky winner for each chick, one boy and one girl, from the submissions of the winning names to enjoy TWO (2) FREE penguin encounters for you and a friend!🐧 The Penguin Research Center is presented by Mountain America Credit Union.

  • These are not one-eyed, flying, or purple... But they do have at least one horn! 😈 A unique characteristic of these fish is the horn-like fin on their heads. This fin is sometimes just for show, like the goby fish, but the filefish can use their fin to secure itself between rocks. The cowfish has horns that are thought to have evolved to make it hard for most predators to swallow. 🐮

  • Amorphophallus titanum, aka the Corpse Flower is quite the spooky wonder!🧟🥀 This endangered plant is native to Sumatra boasts, having the largest single flower of any plant in the world, with a mature plant's flower reaching over 10 feet tall! So why is it called the corpse flower? In its growth cycle, it can take 7-10 years for it to flower and it will open for only 48 hours! In order to optimize that small window for pollination it produces an intense aroma like a rotting corpse to attract flies to pollinate it. The large single flower petal called a "spathe" is even the reddish-brown color of rotting meat. ☠️ You can find ours in the tall bed across from the Amazon Giants habitat and eventually, they will have a new home in our galleries in the new Science Learning Center.
