Friday Feels Like a Slam Dunk: Dribbling Through FIU’s Orlando Magic Innovation Challenge It’s Friday! What a week! We were invited to be one of the judges at FIU’s Orlando Magic Innovation Challenge, and wow—talk about next-level creativity! Picture this: students pitching mind-blowing ideas on how the Orlando Magic can bring the heat to international fans. We’re talking Mexico, Brazil, Puerto Rico—the whole globe was on their minds! 🌍 But here’s where it got really cool: not only did we get to judge (and yes, choosing a winner was hard), we also had the chance to advise these brilliant young minds. We dove into the importance of storytelling, because let’s be real—a great idea is only half the magic. The real secret sauce? It’s all about how you tell the story and make it resonate. The winning team walked away with a sweet $3,000 prize and the opportunity to represent FIU at the Orlando Magic showdown competition next month among other Florida universities. We can’t wait to see how they take their already incredible pitch and push it even further. October is going to be 🔥! This whole experience reminded us why we do what we do here at The Magus Films—it’s all about passion. Whether it’s through film or an idea pitch, it’s the power of a story that brings people together. And we couldn’t be prouder to have been part of this journey with such talented, creative minds. Turning Time into Gold - How We Shot 3 Commercials in 1 day Happy Friday!! In this week’s newsletter, we’re excited to share a special behind-the-scenes video from a campaign we shot for Naru, a brand of dried fruits and nuts. Directed by Luis Bond and filmed in Caracas, Venezuela back in 2021, this project was a true test of how to turn time into cinematic gold. The Challenge: 1 Day, 3 Commercials, and Racing the Sun https://lnkd.in/edgiXW6R What happens when you only have one day to shoot three commercials in three different locations, all while depending on daylight?  You get a race against the clock and a schedule tighter than a close-up shot! Our biggest challenge was completing 3 company moves, setting up at each location, and wrapping everything up before sunset at 6 pm. But with careful planning, a strong crew, and a sprinkle of filmmaking magic, we turned this ambitious one-day shoot into a success. In this behind-the-scenes video, we show you exactly how we turned our ideas into reality. You’ll get to see the original storyboards paired with the final scenes from the commercials, showing the evolution of the visuals. Plus, you’ll get a peek at the behind-the-scenes hustle that kept everything running smoothly, despite the ticking clock. A special shoutout to Luis Bond Alvarez ∴, who truly mastered the art of precision filmmaking under pressure. His creative direction kept the vision clear and consistent. Luis’s ability to maintain both the schedule and the creative integrity of the project was nothing short of alchemy itself. When we film an event, it’s not just about hitting "record." Nope. Alchemy in Motion - Crafting the Marvelous Real in Our Latest BoySmells Shoot We’re pulling back the curtain today to share a glimpse into a project that’s all about turning the ordinary into something truly magical. Our latest adventure? A spec commercial for BoySmells, written and directed by Nelson Isava. At The Magus Films, we see filmmaking as a form of alchemy—taking the raw materials of ideas, creativity, and collaboration, and transforming them into cinematic gold. From the first spark of ideation through to creative development, principal photography, and post-production, it’s all about building a team that connects, syncs up, and creates something extraordinary together. For this BoySmells spec commercial, we drew inspiration from the ‘marvelous real,’ a concept beautifully articulated by Alejo Carpentier. As a nod to Nelson’s Latin American roots, we infused the shoot with a sense of magical realism, capturing the extraordinary within the everyday. And what better place to do that than New York City, a place brimming with its own brand of intrinsic magic? We crafted a timeless love story that transcends time and space, much like the perfume we showcased—a scent that exists beyond traditional gender boundaries.
