Join us for our October 15 program, Blood and Betrayal: "Crazy Sal" Polisi's Life in the New York Mafia. Polisi, a former associate in New York’s Colombo crime family, participated in hijackings, bank robberies and other daring crimes. He founded his own Mafia gambling den, the Sinatra Club, and rubbed shoulders with notorious criminals such as John Gotti, Jimmy Burke and Henry Hill. But as the feds closed in, Polisi faced a gut-wrenching decision: remain loyal to the family or flip on the men he called friends. In this penetrating conversation, Polisi will reflect on his criminal life, his escape from its clutches, and the price he and his family paid to escape. There will be a book signing with Sal Polisi following the program. RSVP at https://lnkd.in/gS8Cy9br

Former Las Vegas Mayor Oscar B. Goodman was recognized with a 2024 Historic Preservation Award from the City of Las Vegas for his innovative adaptive reuse plan for the 1933 U.S. Federal Courthouse and Post Office — the building that now houses the Museum. Goodman is the founding visionary behind The Mob Museum and a member of the Museum Board of Directors. In 2002, during Goodman’s tenure as mayor, he was able to see through the city’s purchase of the U.S. Post Office and Court House, located at 300 Stewart Avenue, from the federal government for $1. He had tried his first federal case in the building decades prior. The affordable purchase price came with the stipulation that the building would be preserved and used as a cultural center. Then-Mayor Goodman proposed a museum that would explore the complicated history of the Mob, and its mostly hidden role in society. With the support of federal, state and local grants, the building was renovated and became the home of The Mob Museum on February 14, 2012. Former governor and U.S. Senator, Honorable Richard Bryan, who also serves on the Museum's Board of Directors, received an award for his advocacy, specifically for his work in obtaining the rights to the historic name "Helldorado" for the city's traditional Helldorado Days festival that dates back to 1935.
