Step in the right direction ($12k proposed tax incentive per apprentice for employers) in finding the balance in employer incentives to expand Apprenticeship in emerging fields such as teaching, healthcare, finance, tech, etc—-many of these fields fit nicely into Apprenticeship Degrees. Based on the radical affordability, upward mobility, and practical experience learners can gain from an Apprenticeship Degree, an expansion in investment into these pathways should offer strong ROI. Kudos to the team at Apprenticeship CO and Denise Miller and Katherine Keegan and the bi-partisan legislators working on this. National Center for the Apprenticeship Degree (NCAD)

Loved co-facilitating an amazing employer hybrid session with Metropolitan State University of Denver’s School of Social Work’s chair Jessica Retrum and her faculty peers as they prepare to design and launch a first of its kind Apprenticeship Degree path in Social Work in the nation (coming in fall 2025). Thanks to the Colorado Behavioral Health Administration, Apprenticeship Colorado, and to partners like the Morgridge Family Foundation for making this pathway at MSU Denver’s new Classroom to Career hub happen. The National Center for the Apprenticeship Degree (NCAD) is thrilled to be a part of this collaborative effort to address systemic talent shortages, address equity in the Social Work workforce, and seeing more debt free pathways to good jobs and quality degrees for learners.

“Apprentice-mania is about to hit our shores,” writes Ryan Craig in Forbes. “While everyone likes apprenticeships, everyone will love apprenticeship degrees. But only if they’re real.” So what constitutes a “real” Apprenticeship Degree? For starters, the job comes first. The training and degree directly correspond to the career pathway ahead. But it doesn’t stop there. Just think of the ABC’s of Apprenticeship Degrees: From affordability to strengthened employer partnerships and transforming the workplace into the university learning place, National Center for the Apprenticeship Degree (NCAD) and its partners offer the blueprint to launch job-embedded degrees across employers, colleges, and universities. How do you envision using an #ApprenticeshipDegree? Read Ryan’s full article: https://lnkd.in/giSgWZeq

🎓 In the The Brookings Institution's latest report on college affordability, research shows that “With fewer options to close the gap, lower-income students are more likely to work more hours, potentially to the detriment of their studies.” It doesn’t have to be this way. With #ApprenticeshipDegrees, accredited colleges and universities integrate paid work with affordable, on-the-job degree programs, offering learners a “shockingly affordable tuition without required reliance on student loan debt.” At Reach University, this means that after grants and scholarships, the expected out-of-pocket contribution for full-time undergraduate candidates is $900 per year, or $75 per month – with zero student loan debt. Get to know the ABCs of Apprenticeship Degrees from Reach’s National Center for the Apprenticeship Degree (NCAD). Had a wonderful time representing the National Center for the Apprenticeship Degree (NCAD) at Jobs for the Future (JFF)’s Pathways to Prosperity convening in Boston this week. Libuse B. and I were able to lead a pre-conference session on Apprenticeship Degrees and a conference session with our partners from Quinsigamond Community College around the planning and future launch of Apprenticeship Degrees in Massachusetts! Big thanks to Kyle Hartung and Charlotte Cahill for inviting us and being amazing partners! One major thing, among many, is that a well designed Apprenticeship Degree pathway provides a no-dead end gateway to upward mobility and permeability in our education and workforce system. More of that please!
