About us

The New York Sun is home to the finest traditions of American journalism. Credited as “one of the most influential American newspapers,” The Sun was founded in 1833 and ran for over 100 years as a Pulitzer-winning independent daily until its merger with The New York World-Telegram in 1950. In 2002, The Sun was relaunched as The New York Sun under the leadership of Editor-in-Chief Seth Lipsky and competed with The New York Times for seven years as a leading daily print newspaper. In the coming months, we’ll be re-making the Sun’s web properties and, together with longtime proprietor and editor, Seth Lipsky, expanding its much admired coverage of politics, culture, and the arts. In its editorials, the Sun will pursue its focus on constitutionalism, equality under the law, and American values. We’ll also be developing the Sun’s unique community, with new opportunities to engage and participate in the conversation. In 188 years of history, the Sun has always resisted the herd mentality and demonstrated a willingness to stand apart. Today, amid record public distrust in news media, we’re confident that you’ll find our unique, principles-based journalism to be an indispensable addition to your day.
