Halloween is a time for fun, costumes, and decorations, but for seniors living with Alzheimer’s or dementia, it can also bring unexpected challenges. 👻 From frightening decorations to unrecognizable costumes, it’s important to create a safe and stress-free environment for your loved ones. We sat down with Northbridge’s Dementia Care Expert, Kelly McCarthy, who shared 4 helpful tips for making Halloween special, while avoiding unnecessary stress: 1. Opt for festive fall décor (skip the scary stuff) 2. Avoid masks and makeup that could confuse your loved one 3. Rethink Halloween night traditions (consider smaller, familiar gatherings) 4. Limit exposure to spooky TV commercials that may cause anxiety Want to learn more about how to make this season enjoyable for seniors with memory loss? The Northbridge North Region hosted a Kickball Tournament as a fundraising event for the Compassionate Caregivers Fund! Teams from Avita of Brunswick, Avita of Wells, Ledgewood Bay, Sunnybrook and the Regionals all played for a chance to win! It was a fun-filled afternoon with friends, families (we love our fans!) and fundraising! Avita of Brunswick took home 1st Place in the tournament, but they’ll have to defend their title, the afternoon was so much fun it is going to be an annual event! Shoutout to Avita of Brunswick Resident Care Director, Danielle Dadiego, for coming up with this amazing idea! We were able to raise $1,500 in support of the Compassionate Caregivers Fund. This fund provides support for associates during their time of need. It is a great way to support those who do so much to support our residents. The good news is- you can still donate! Our next stop during the Compassionate Caregiver FunDrive took us to Carriage House at Lee's Farm for a Luau featuring amazing dancers, tropical food and drinks and a dunk tank! In addition to celebrating 20 years of Northbridge Jim Coughlin and Wendy Nowokunski were excited to join the community to celebrate Carriage House's 10 Year Anniversary. One thing we learned at this event...everyone loves a dunk tank! A few members of the Carriage House Leadership team were great sports and volunteered to be dunked to fundraise for the Compassionate Caregiver Fund - shoutout to Executive Director, Elizabeth Mattei, CDP and Maintenance Director, Laurie Pimentel for jumping in the dunk tank. In addition to the Carriage House leadership team, Northbridge CEO, Jim Coughlin and Regional Director of Operations, David A. Lewis volunteered to take a turn in the dunk tank. All for a great cause, raising funds for the Compassionate Caregiver Fund. You might have missed the opportunity to dunk Jim Coughlin, but you can still donate to the Compassionate Caregiver Fund here: https://lnkd.in/eSTNm5ZE.
