We're a marine cargo operating partnership of the Port of Seattle and Port of Tacoma.
About us
The Northwest Seaport Alliance brings together two of the premier harbor facilities in North America to form a single, integrated gateway for marine cargo. The ports of Seattle and Tacoma joined forces in August 2015 to unify management of their marine cargo facilities, strengthening the gateway and attracting more marine cargo to the Puget Sound region. We are the third largest container load center in North America, and regional marine cargo facilities are also a major center for bulk, breakbulk, project/heavy-lift cargoes, automobiles and trucks. Strategically located in the northwest corner of the U.S., we offer shorter transits from Asia, and are the first and last ports of call for many trans-Pacific liner services. We pride ourselves on being proactive and performance-driven, and put unrelenting focus on delivering on a promise of operational excellence and best-in-class service for our customers worldwide. Make our advantages yours.

For most of our North Star Awards, we accept nominations and then a committee reviews them and selects a winner. Except for one award, Ocean Carrier of the Year, that's all about the numbers. And this year's winner for that award was Ocean Network Express! ONE won this award by handling the most container volume through our gateway, and to lock it in they had largest year-over-year volume increase. Congratulations again to ONE! #ports #cargo #award

This year's North Star Awards Exporter of the Year was.... International Feed! In 2023, International Feed managed to increase its volume through our gateway by nearly 200%. This significant growth established its position as one of our Top 15 export customers, not to mention a spot among the JOC Top 100. Congratulations again to International Feed! Earlier this month The Northwest Seaport Alliance hosted a reverse trade mission organized by Potatoes USA, the national marketing and research organization focused on promoting U.S. potatoes. The group included food buyers and distributors from around the world, including China, Colombia, Malaysia, Mexico, Philippines, and Vietnam. John Tullis highlighted our gateway’s capabilities to handle refrigerated export volumes. Frozen French fries remain the gateway’s largest containerized refrigerated export by volume.

ICYMI this month at the Managing Members meeting our commissioners voted in favor of moving to the next step of our clean truck program, requiring trucks that call all our terminals to operate a 2007 model year truck or newer. Currently the requirement already applies to all our international terminals and this next phase expands it to our domestic terminals (TOTE, West Sitcum and Terminal115). With this vote the deadline for all trucks to be a 2007 model year or newer will be late 2025, with enforcement beginning in 2026. The good news is almost all of the roughly 5,000 trucks that call our gateway already meet this requirement, but for the handful that do not, we have initiated another round of scrap and replace funding. This funding is for up to $30,000 per truck that is scrapped and replaced with a newer model year. Learn more about that program here: https://bit.ly/4gME1Im You have time and we have funding to support the last phase of this transition!

Thank you to Seattle City Councilmember Kettle for taking the time to visit our working waterfront! Commissioner Hasegawa joined the tour which spanned the diverse ways, from cargo to cruise to fishing, in which the Seattle waterfront is critical to the state economy. We were also joined by our ILWU labor partners to emphasize the importance of these industrial jobs and a representative from the Eastern Washington export community to highlight the statewide significance of our facilities. #workingwaterfront #ports #industriallands

Thank you again to Congresswoman Jayapal for her continued support of our zero-emission truck transition! This year the Congresswoman secured an additional $850,000 to support our transition to zero emission trucking, helping to develop charging infrastructure sites for the almost 5,000 trucks that call our gateway. #trucks #zeroemission #infrastructure
