Please read these heartfelt words from our Senior Director for Network and Power Building, Pancho Arguelles: I like jokes and understand the temptation of ridiculing those who propagate weird conspiracy theories, yet the danger of doing this is that we keep our collective attention inside the echo chamber designed to dehumanize immigrants and to activate fear and anger in society. This is not new, immigrants have been used as a scapegoat by bigots through history. Just in 2019 the Walmart massacre in El Paso, TX showed us how this demonizing of immigrants leads to violence. I think that is more useful to call attention the track record of the candidates and the impact their proposed policies will have in our communities. For decades anti-immigrant sectors have been appealing to the less evolved part of our brain, the one that focuses on fear and aggression, this has been effective in criminalizing immigrants and dividing society, but one of the side effects of centering fear in our political-electoral strategies is the gradual expulsion of rationality and empathy from it. At the end of the day, we cannot dehumanize sectors of our community without dehumanizing our society as a whole. History is filled of tragic examples of what happens when we do this. We have a chance and a moral imperative to do better. #BuildPower

📢 Calling All Researchers! 📢 Evidence for Action (E4A) is seeking research proposals to evaluate interventions that counteract structural and systemic racism and improve health, well-being, and equity outcomes. They prioritize projects focusing on the intersection of racial equity and other forms of marginalization, such as low income, immigration status, disabilities, and LGBTQ+ identities. Their funding targets studies that address the root causes of health inequities—systems, structures, policies, and practices that shape resource distribution and opportunities. Your research should center on communities with the greatest health burdens and aim to inform actionable solutions, not just document problems. Learn more AND Apply TODAY!!! Application Deadline: November 1, 2024 at 3:00 PM ET 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gqJYuhBm #ResearchFunding #HealthEquity#RacialJustice#E4A
