The Propeller Club of the United States is a grassroots, non-profit organization, dedicated to the enhancement and well-being of all interests of the maritime community on a national and international basis. Membership is organized into local clubs called "Ports." There are 52 port chapters in the United States, 33 Clubs overseas, 16 Student Port Clubs in the U.S., and 5 Student Ports overseas. The Propeller Club aggressively promotes the maritime industry through many of its programs and by partnering with other similar organizations. Our goal is to educate legislators and the public as to the importance and necessity of all waterborne commerce. The Propeller Club Port of Norfolk has over 340 members from all facets of the maritime transportation and logistics fields. The Club hosts a number of luncheons and networking events throughout the year. Its primary fund raising events are the well known Propeller Club Oyster Roasts held in April and October, south Hampton Road's National Maritime Day Celebration in May at the Norfolk waterfront, and an Annual Golf Outing in June. The Port of Norfolk has several charitable missions. The most notable are two annually endowed $5000 Old Dominion University scholarships to be awarded to a member of the ODU Student Propeller Club and the child of a merchant mariner, an annual gift of $2500 awarded to the Seafarers Agencies of Hampton Roads, and financial support for the Sail Nauticus Academy for kids.

We loved having members of the ODU Student Propeller Club in attendance at our National Maritime Day event. Thanks to all of the companies who generously sponsored their attendance!
Last week, I attended The Propeller Club, Port of Norfolk National Maritime Day celebration. It was a fantastic event at one of the most fitting venues, the USS Wiscon. I met so many accomplished people and had the chance to meet a 4-star general, Jacqueline D. Van Ovost, who is in charge of the U.S. Transportation Command! She was such an inspiring speaker, and meeting her was one of the most memorable moments of the whole event! I'd like to give a special thanks to David H. Sump for sponsoring mine and another ODU propeller club student ticket! I hope to thank him in person for sponsoring me, as this was such an unforgettable event to attend! Also, thank you to CV International for sponsoring two of my other club members so that they could also attend this event! Events like these are crucial for students to learn more about the vast world of the maritime industry!

Thanks to CROFTON for their support on National Maritime Day!
CROFTON proudly sponsored The Propeller Club, Port of Norfolk's National Maritime Day Celebration aboard the USS Wisconsin last week. Our very own Camille Crofton Cherry presided over the event as this year's Propeller Club President. The evening featured a moving wreath laying ceremony (conducted from the deck of CROFTON's Cromo), awards and recognitions for outstanding contributions, and inspiring remarks from key members of the maritime community. This annual event holds a special place in our hearts as it underscores the dedication and hard work of everyone in our industry. It's a reminder of the vital role we all play in maintaining and advancing maritime safety and excellence. #NationalMaritimeDay #MaritimeCommunity #Norfolk
