What do Jocko Willink , 4:34am, and my son Anthony have in common?
Two things.
First -
I found out that the “Jocko Fuel 4:34 Tour” was coming to our town
500 people met in the Walmart parking lot, Saturday morning, at 4:34am and Jocko (on the megaphone) put us through his workout.
It was tough and yes, we had lots of burpees for breakfast. 😉
Afterwards we got the chance to meet him and take a picture
I knew getting him on my Podcast was a long shot, so I seized the moment to ask him one of my go-to questions
“What’s your best piece of advice?”
His response was spot on!
Discipline = Freedom
…great reminder for business and life
Second -
I siezed this opportunity because I am reminded that our children, in the end, really want our time, just being with us…being together and sharing the moment…more than getting things, etc.
My 13 year old son, Anthony…and I both enjoy working out and this was a chance to make a fun and special memory!
(as the father of 6 boys, I have to mindful about of spending time with each of them)
Thank you, Jocko, for creating an opportunity for Anthony and I to spend some quality time together to “Get Some”!

If you've been in recruitment longer than a minute you've likely heard a variation of one or many of these.
We need to stop basing interview feedback on “feelings”!
I'm not saying that we shouldn't listen to our feelings when it comes to hiring, I am suggesting we need to bring in data and scorecards into the process so we can accurately assess candidates fairly.
It’s 2024, lets make informed decisions and leave the “gut feelings” in the past.

1. Entry level/new grad
2. Transition/career pivot
3. Self-employed to employee
4. Perceived job hopper/ been at your company too long (10 + yrs)
5. Currently unemployed
If this is you, don't be discouraged, just know it's going to be harder work.
You'll see that this is every job search situation outside of a lateral move.
A lateral move is when you are looking for the same job at a competitor.
