We are incredibly grateful to the WE CARE Fund, the nationally-recognized charitable arm of the Nassau County Bar Association for their support of our “Client Needs Project,” which helps survivors of abuse with essential resources, from transportation to temporary housing to legal representation, while they prepare for a life free from violence for themselves and their children. “In 2023, the WE CARE Grant for the Client Needs Project allowed us to assist clients with emergency funds, Metro Cards, gas cards, food cards, household furnishings, moving necessities, and other basic needs,” said Debbie Lyons, Associate Executive Director of The Safe Center. “This grant allows our staff to provide the children and adults fleeing their abuser with necessities to begin their lives again.” Pictured left to right: NCBA President Daniel Russo; WE CARE Co-Chair Joseph Lo Piccolo; Bridget Mantello and Ingrid Villagran, The Safe Center; NCBA Past President Sanford Strenger.

It's time to expose the tactics traffickers use to control their victims and raise awareness about this issue. Traffickers use a range of manipulative tactics to exert control over their victims. 👉 Physical and emotional abuse, along with threats, are commonly used to instill fear and maintain dominance. 👉 By isolating victims from their friends and family, traffickers create a sense of dependency. 👉 Financial abuse is another tool in their arsenal. This is the act of manipulating, controlling, and restricting a person’s capacity to obtain, utilize, and sustain financial assets. This form of exploitation can hinder individuals who experience it from seeking and securing employment. 👉 They exploit vulnerabilities and make promises that seem to address the needs of their targets, only to tighten their grip and exert control. Teachers play an important role in keeping children safe from interpersonal violence. By creating a supportive environment where students feel comfortable understanding and reporting abuse, and by putting strong preventative policies in place, educators help protect their students. Here are three reasons why YOUR efforts matter. 🍎 Educators Are Often a Child's Last Line of Defense 🍎 Educators May Be the Only Person a Child Tells About Abuse 🍎 Educators’ Responses Can Encourage More Abuse Reporting Please help us raise awareness by sharing this post. We remember… On this day, we pause to remember the lives tragically lost and the enduring strength of survivors in the wake of the September 11th attacks. The resilience displayed by individuals and communities during those challenging times remains an inspiration to us all. Just as the world came together in the aftermath of 9/11, we are reminded of the importance of unity and empathy in facing adversity. Today, we honor the memories of those who left us on that fateful day. By standing together, we can build safer and more compassionate communities, where violence has no place to thrive.
