One act of kindness can change a life forever. The story of Camp Walter Johnson is a testament to this. It all began with a runaway boy, a compassionate Salvation Army officer, and a grateful shop owner who never forgot the help he received. Years later, this chain of kindness led to a generous donation that made Camp Walter Johnson possible. "All put together, it produced a ripple effect that brought Walter Johnson to a place that made it possible for thousands of young people to experience joy and God’s life-changing presence at Camp Walter Johnson." - Commissioner John Busby Read the full article to discover the incredible story behind Camp Walter Johnson. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/ecMnwy8D

Commissioners Bring Hope and Help to East Tennessee Disaster Survivors The Salvation Army's mission to "love, serve, and disciple" is being lived out in powerful ways across the Southern Territory, where our disaster relief teams are working tirelessly to support those affected by the recent storms. Yesterday, our teams in East Tennessee were incredibly inspired by Southern Territory Leaders Commissioners Kelly and Donna Igleheart, who joined the efforts on the ground. They started their day with our hardworking incident management team and canteen crews, getting a firsthand look at the coordinated response. Then, it was off to Mountain City, TN with a mobile kitchen, where they personally served hot meals to survivors and first responders. But it was more than just providing food; the Commissioners took the time to connect with families who are still struggling without power and water. They offered a listening ear, a warm meal, and the comfort of prayer. This is what The Salvation Army is all about – meeting both physical and spiritual needs, offering hope in the midst of crisis. We're so grateful for leaders who not only lead, but also serve alongside us. "This Army is rising up, and I believe you are playing a significant part in this." - Commissioner Donna Igleheart Yesterday, we wrapped up our time with the songwriting, church planting, and writer/author vision groups, where individuals from across the territory came together to pray fervently, dream big, and discuss what the Lord has in store for these areas within The Salvation Army Southern Territory. As the different groups presented their recommendations, there was an overwhelming sense that we are not in this alone. We have an army of brilliant individuals full of incredible ideas who care, and who want the best for our territory as we all live out our mission together. "We are not leading out of a position of weakness, but of strength... It would be easy now to rest and relax because we've got it going on, but now is the time to double down and push even harder." - Commissioner Kelly Igleheart We are so grateful for all of your passion, dedication, and hard work and can't wait to see what comes from this time together! #tsaALLFORJESUS

“This work is about food, water, and safety, but it’s also about the God who sees His people in distress and comes to their aid. He sends people to help people.” - Major Cam Henderson Our dedicated volunteers bring more than just food and water - they bring hope. In the wake of Hurricane Helene, Stephanie's compassion and Major Henderson's presence led Randy to find salvation. Randy's words reflect the struggles many face, "Just make sure they have some. I’m not really deserving of much help," but through the Gospel story, Randy found redemption. Join us in bringing life to the broken and hope to those affected by the hurricane, even amidst devastation. We walked. We paused. We prayed. This week, The Salvation Army Southern Territory staff and officers continued Sunday's International Day of Prayer for Survivors of Human Trafficking, uniting in a powerful prayer walk down Corporate Blvd—an area heavily affected by sex trafficking and labor exploitation. Sheena Evans, our Territorial Services Coordinator Against Human Trafficking, reminded us: the need for prayers goes far beyond a single day. As we continue to fight for a world free from human trafficking, let's join in prayer: For those still trapped: Pray for their rescue, healing, and restoration. For survivors: Pray for their continued strength, hope, and ability to trust again. For justice: Pray that perpetrators will be held accountable and turn from their harmful ways. For the global Church: Pray for unity and strength in the fight against human trafficking. For The Salvation Army's efforts: Pray for wisdom, resources, and effectiveness in combating this injustice. Let's lift our voices together, not just today, but every day.
