This year's theme for National Disability Employment Awareness Month is “Access to Good Jobs for All.” At The Standard, we're continuing to invest in initiatives to make our brand accessible to all. Adrienne Grace (she/her), accessibility analyst and graphic designer, works to ensure accessibility standards are met. "I've always felt accessibility is part of DEI, so I'm happy to think something I do helps an audience that might otherwise be underserved. In truth, everyone benefits when something is accessible. It's just easier to use." #NDEAM #Accessibility

We are proud to highlight the talent and accomplishments of our marketing team colleague, Victor Benites and his dedication and passion for promoting diversity and inclusion within our communities. As National Hispanic Heritage Month comes to an end, let's continue to celebrate and honor the rich cultural heritage and achievements of Hispanic and Latinx individuals throughout the whole year.

I’m excited to finally share this! Even though Pride Month was a few months ago, this design remains close to my heart, especially now during #HispanicHeritageMonth. I was incredibly honored when the Latino Network selected my artwork to feature on their shirts for this year’s Pride Parade. Latino Network is such an inspiring organization, committed to empowering and uplifting the Latino communities in Multnomah County and beyond. Their impact is far-reaching, and I’m proud to play a small part in their mission. Here is the story behind my design: The concept of my design is a heartfelt love letter to myself and to all LGBTQIA+ individuals—past, present, and future. I chose to incorporate marigolds to honor the LGBTQIA+ trailblazers who have paved the way for us today. The cherry blossoms, abundant here in Portland, symbolize life and remind us to cherish our own lives and the lives of others as we navigate this often challenging journey together. Lastly, the rose represents both Portland and the profound power of love. Love is our most powerful weapon, empowering us to love ourselves and to spread love throughout the world. “Con orgullo,” whether whispered as a quiet affirmation to oneself or shouted as a rallying cry, encourages us all to march forward with pride, embracing who we are. #Pride #LatinxEmpowerment #LoveAndPride #Portland #DesignWithPurpose

For #NationalComingOutDay, we recognize the courage of members of our LGBTQ+ community. Fostering an environment that prioritizes people, integrity and outstanding customer service starts with ensuring that every employee ― at all levels of our organization ― feels they have the freedom to be fully who they are. We value our LGBTQ+ employees for the unique life experiences and perspectives they contribute to our culture.

We extend a huge thank you to our employees who last month joined other volunteers and shopped for 258 people in support of Store to Door PDX. Store to Door supports independent living for seniors and people with disabilities by providing an affordable, volunteer-based grocery shopping and delivery service. We are grateful for this spirit of giving that enriches and strengthens our communities.
