As awareness becomes heightened this month, we know that 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. When we hear that a friend or a loved one is facing this disease, we want to find ways to help. The Steps Sisters organization has made it our mission to step in like a friend or loved one would. We offer a range of quality of life services to help lessen the every day burden where we can as well as a Crisis Fund that helps families financially. Your donation goes directly to helping patients in our local area. Find out more at https://lnkd.in/eusQWd3m

Improving the quality of life for those impacted by breast cancer by funding needed support services in Northern VA
About us
The Step Sisters fight breast cancer differently – by raising funds to provide practical support services for Northern Virginia patients as they battle the disease. Studies show that personal and financial difficulties can cause breast cancer patients to delay or even stop their treatment. Our goal is to not only increase a patient’s quality of life, but also to increase the chances that she sticks to her treatment plan. That’s how we fight breast cancer.

Sometimes we find ourselves in a new situation when it comes to serving our local breast cancer patients. Thankfully, with the help of local community members, the team at @stonespringsautocenter and our crisis funds, we were able to help this patient with repairs that will now allow them to get to treatment regularly.

One day in 2012, Jayne Sandman and I got a call from Eun Yang and Angie Goff. Over lunch at Black Salt Restaurant, they told us about a small event they had put together called Newsbabes, in which a group of DC newswomen joined forces in the name of helping local breast cancer charities—and they needed our help. Before we even ordered, we were all in, making it the pro bono event of The Brand Guild forevermore. We first did a small event with Kiehl's Since 1851, which blossomed into a huge relationship (looking at you Rachael Kelley!). Then we headed to Howard Theatre with a few hundred of our closest friends. Andrea Mitchell was our special guest. Georgetown Cupcake(s) were everywhere. Alton Lane put the men in pink ties. Tommy McFLY was big on FM radio. Since that first fateful lunch date, we’ve raised over $400,000 for eight breast cancer charities, all with a focus on bringing care to women who need it most, from bringing mammograms to communities that lack resources like Breast Care for Washington, or this year’s cause, The Step Sisters, which brings all kinds of practical care to women in treatment. We had no idea then how much breast cancer would touch all of our lives. I didn’t know it would directly impact mine. Today at 7p, we will gather at Four Seasons Washington, D.C. Hotel to celebrate survivorship, and raise funds to help so many at NewsBash 2024. You can join us by buying a ticket at dcnewsbash.org for $150. And if you buy one of the few remaining Mammogram Maven tickets for $300, you’ll get a $1500 goodie bag in return. Thanks for all of your support over all of these many years. What an impact we have all made, together. #dcnewsbash #pressforacure
