This National Coming Out Day, we’re here to remind you that your journey to self-acceptance doesn’t have to be linear. Finding yourself and navigating your identity is an ongoing process, and you’re allowed to change, shift, and grow through it. Often, internalized homophobia and transphobia prevents us from acknowledging the parts of ourselves that most want to be seen. Your identity will never be ‘too much’ or too complex to understand. Our guide to navigating the journey of self-acceptance is here as a tool to help you acknowledge, understand, and unlearn internalized homophobia and transphobia in order to allow you to be the most true, authentic version of yourself. Remember, The Trevor Project is always here for you. We are here 24/7/365, on every holiday, free and secure. Call us at 1-866-488-7386, text START to 678-678, or visit trvr.org/get-help to speak to our counselors 🧡 #NationalComingOutDay #ComingOut #Acceptance #LGBTQ #TheTrevorProject

Sylvia and Marsha and Harvey and Bayard and James and José and Audre and Christine and Willem and Vito 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ In a time when books about LGBTQ+ history are banned in many schools across the country, remembering the lives and legacies of queer and trans changemakers is more necessary than ever. These folks rebelled against unjust systems and measured their courage through direct action; they used their talents to advocate for a better world. Their lives mattered — they shaped the present we live in today and the future we will exist in tomorrow. This month, we give those LGBTQ+ history-shapers their flowers 💐We honor their memory and continue their work. #LGBTQHistoryMonth #QueerHistory #LGBTQ #TheTrevorProject

Bullying is not just an act of aggression or simple “teasing.” It is a destructive cycle that can leave long lasting scars on mental health, self esteem, and overall well being. Our 2024 National Survey revealed “Nearly half (49%) of LGBTQ+ young people ages 13-17 experienced bullying in the past year, and those who did reported significantly higher rates attempting suicide in the past year than those who did not experience bullying.” Nearly half. This is a staggering reminder that bullying, of any degree, has detrimental consequences. October is National Bullying Prevention Month, and we invite you to learn more about bullying and how to prevent it. 📢Be an Ally: Be a support to folks that are being targeted by bullying by showing kindness and respect. Being a beacon of support and safety for them can make all the difference. 📢Be aware: Bullying doesn't always occur in the classroom. Sometimes young people experience bullying online or in other social settings. Being aware of where and how bullying can happen is an important step in preventing it. 📢Create safe spaces: Fostering an environment that is safe and welcoming for LGBTQ+ young people to safely express themselves is crucial to someone that may be experiencing bullying. Having a safe space, both emotionally and physically, to turn to lowers the feeling of isolation that bullying may cause. 📢Speak up: If you see, or even suspect bullying - don't stay silent. Use your voice to advocate for not only the person being bullied but getting possible support for the bully. Oftentimes, bullies are reflecting struggles they may be facing in their own life. Facing bullying at the source may prevent it from continuing. Most importantly, be a kind human. #BullyingPreventionMonth #TheTrevorProject

LGBTQ+ history is human history 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ From the Stonewall Rebellion to freedom to marry; from Bayard Rustin to Marsha P. Johnson; from the National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights of 1979 to the Equality March on Washington of 2016. 📢 For those LGBTQ+ organizers who spent years advocating in the halls of Congress to those angel allies who blocked protesters outside of the funeral of Matthew Shephard. Our collective history is ingrained in our movement and our memory. As we continue our mission to prevent suicide amongst LGBTQ+ young people, we honor those heroes of queer, trans, and intersex history whose visibility and vulnerability mixed with courage of conviction led to social, political, and cultural change. This LGBTQ+ History Month, we carry our history into the future as those who fought for equity, justice, and equality watch it come to fruition through our eyes. 🧡 #LGBTQHistoryMonth #LGBTQHistory #LGBTQ #TheTrevorProject

Classrooms should be a supportive environment 📚✏️ At The Trevor Project, we know that legal protections such as Title IX are only the beginning steps towards creating an inclusive world within schools and beyond. Our 2024 National Survey found that school policies play a significant role in LGBTQ+ young people’s mental health, with the presence of even one anti-LGBTQ+ policy being associated with higher rates of anxiety, depression, and past-year suicide attempts for young LGBTQ+ students. To ensure every LGBTQ+ young person can bring their authentic self to school every day, it’s essential that school administrators and staff review their protocols and procedures to determine how they can best support students in their district. Information on Title IX and more about what we are doing here at The Trevor Project to support LGBTQ+ young people can be found here on our new blog: https://lnkd.in/gNxSbNW2 #TitleIX #TheTrevorproject #InclusiveSchools #LGBTQ
