A Legacy of Excellence Continues... With a score of 93.57, we are humbled to yet again be named the #1 City Club in the Country by Platinum Clubs of America, for the seventh consecutive voting period. For the first time, we were also the single highest-ranked club among all other Platinum Club categories: Country Club, Golf Club, Yacht Club and Athletic Club. The Union League of Philadelphia has long been a cornerstone of Philadelphia’s social fabric, recognized not just for our rich history, but also for our commitment to excellence in service and member engagement. Central to the League’s identity is its unwavering commitment to patriotism. Since its founding in 1862, the League has been a champion of civic responsibility and community service. This commitment is exemplified through our generous members and the efforts of our charitable foundation, Founding Forward. As a national non-profit with over 75 years of experience, Founding Forward provides engaging and relevant civic education through immersive programs for students, teachers and citizens about the principles, rights and responsibilities of American citizenship. Hear from our 73rd President, Harry E. Hill III on this achievement and the future of the League. #1CityClub #PlatinumClub #UnionLeague #LeagueLife

Number One City Club in the Country. Motto: Love of Country Leads. Founded in 1862.
About us
Founded in 1862 as a patriotic society to support the Union and the policies of President Abraham Lincoln, The Union League of Philadelphia laid the philosophical foundation of other Union Leagues across a nation torn by civil war. The League has hosted U.S. presidents, heads of state, industrialists, entertainers and dignitaries from around the globe and has proudly supported the American military in each conflict since the Civil War. The Union League continues to be driven by its founding motto, Amor Patriae Ducit or Love of Country Leads. Today, the Union League is home to over 4,000 men and women who contribute to club life and keep alive the League’s traditions. As they did in 1862, today’s members represent the Philadelphia region’s leaders in business, education, technology, healthcare, law, government, religion, art and culture. The Union League Legacy Foundation is the new, single, unified nonprofit charity of the Union League. It is dedicated to the same values of freedom and free enterprise upon which the League was founded. Through historic preservation, education and scholarship, the Legacy Foundation promotes these values and ideals, inspiring more educated, engaged and responsible citizens. The League House occupies an entire city block in the center of Philadelphia’s commercial and cultural district. The building is representative of the classic French Renaissance style, with a brick and brownstone façade and dramatic twin circular staircases that lead to the main entrance on Broad Street. Built in 1865, the building was added to the National Historic Register in 1979. Ever-expanding, the League offers a plethora of amenities including five companion amenities: The Bungalow, The Union League Golf Club at Torresdale, The Union League Guard House, Union League National Golf Club and Union League Liberty Hill.

The Union League of Philadelphia reposted this
Our best wishes to our Union League Scholarship and Abele Scholarship recipients as they begin their college experience! We are thrilled to have them as part of the Founding Forward and The Union League of Philadelphia communities. This past spring, Founding Forward awarded a total of $414,000 to 12 graduating high school seniors to assist them with their educational pursuits throughout their coming four-year collegiate experience. Both programs require an extensive application, including an external letter of recommendation, record of grades, financial information, a personal statement, and an essay. Over 70 years, we’ve awarded approximately $8 million to nearly 1,500 students in support of their college and other post-high-school educational endeavors. #FoundingForward #CollegeScholarship
