Using the three elements from the Simplified View of AM - Layer Formation, Energy & Materials - we are able to categorize and define each technology by "family groups". Diving into the TBGA TOOLBOX, we start with a basic method to define the AM processes: The Simplified View of AM. While there are a variety of AM technologies, this tool provides users with a way to analyze how these three elements work together to define the process: (1) How do you form the LAYER? (2) How is the ENERGY applied? (3) How is the MATERIAL applied? The significance of the work we get to do hits home even stronger when we get to do it in our nations capital. This week, Ethan C., Rick Russell and Kevin Slattery joined our partners from BlueForge Alliance to present the findings of the US Navy Submarine Industrial Base Additive Manufacturing Demand Study. This task was led by the TBGA team to support the Navy's ambitious goal to significantly ramp up production of Columbia and Virginia Class subs. In-situ process monitoring, nondestructive testing, metal AM qualification - and she comes to us from NASA Marshall Space Flight Center! Recognizing the role The Barnes Global Advisors (TBGA) has played in AM qualification efforts, the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) and ARCTOS Technology Solutions has asked TBGA to lead an initial phase of the groundbreaking QUASAR program (Qualification of Additive Structures for Aerospace Requirements) for metal additive manufacturing of aerospace components. As part of this effort, TBGA is seeking input from industry experts in the form of a survey that will help AFRL determine future funding allocations.
