We invite you to commemorate the vision, commitment, and community that made The Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art & Culture a reality by donating today in honor of the center’s accomplishments of the past two years. Your donation makes possible exhibitions that work to ensure Chicano Art is preserved in the American Art canon as well as education programs that uplift Chicana/o/x artists. In the fall we will celebrate all that has been made possible with the unveiling of a Meet Me at The Cheech sculpture by Ignacio Gomez so visitors for years to come can be sure to meet Cheech at The Cheech. Since opening our doors in June 2022, we have welcomed over 223,000 visitors including 18,000 students on tour, to learn more about Chicano art. More than 327 artists’ work have been exhibited and 19 curators have organized exhibitions. More than 1,000 press impressions from across the nation shared the news of this special center. The Cheech was nominated for USA Today Readers' Choice 2024 Award for Best New Museum. In July 2023, the Riverside Art Museum received an Institute of Museum and Library Service’s national medal, the highest honor given to museums, for our work in partnership with the community to launch The Cheech. The City of Riverside won the 2024 California League of City’s Helen Putnam Award for Economic Development through the Arts for the public-private partnership. And Hyperallergic selected the inaugural Cheech Collects exhibition as one of the Top 2022 Exhibitions worldwide. This daring public-private partnership is testament to the commitment of our leaders, community members, and donors like you who believed that the seemingly impossible could happen. We invite you to make a donation today. The Meet Me at The Cheech campaign was the last organized by Ofelia Valdez-Yeager, our immediate Past President and chair of The Cheech campaign, who passed away January 7, 2024. Help us honor her and successfully complete this campaign! Donate today! https://lnkd.in/gsbZHtW5 #MeetMeAtTheCheechcampaign #supportaccesstothearts

Part of Riverside Art Museum, The Cheech strives to instill a lifelong love of Chicano art to visitors, near and far.
About us
On June 18, 2022, The Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art & Culture of the Riverside Art Museum ("The Cheech") opened to the public in Riverside, California, the "City of Arts & Innovation." Founded as a 501c3 in 1954, Riverside Art Museum (RAM) is one museum with two locations: The Cheech (which opened in 2022) and The Julia Morgan Building (which opened in 1967). RAM integrates art into the lives of people in a way that engages, inspires, and builds community by providing high-quality exhibitions and art education programs that instill a lifelong love of the arts. It was RAM’s desire to further engage and serve the community that was the impetus to create The Cheech, a public-private partnership between RAM, the City of Riverside, and comedian Cheech Marin—one of the world’s foremost collectors of Chicano art. Best known as one half of the hilariously irreverent, satirical, counter-culture, no-holds-barred duo Cheech & Chong, Cheech is also recognized as a preeminent Chicano art advocate. In the mid-1980s, Cheech began developing what is now arguably the finest private collection of Chicano art. Marin’s gift of approximately 500 works by Chicana/o/x artists—including the likes of Carlos Almaraz, Judithe Hernández, Gilbert “Magú” Luján, Sandy Rodriguez, Frank Romero, and Patssi Valdez—to RAM’s permanent collection makes the museum a repository for one of the largest holdings of Chicana/o/x art.
