Apple may have lost the streaming wars 😳 After spending over $20B on shows and movies since the launch of Apple TV+ in 2019. Why? • Despite billions spent a year on original programming, Apple TV is getting just 0.2% of TV viewing in the US. • The platform currently generates fewer views in a month than Netflix does in a day. • And they just don’t have the same amount of content as their competitors. • Apple has a couple hundred titles, while Netflix, Hulu, and Max have thousands. "Subscriber growth has been weak, with the platform’s original content a fraction of what rivals offer," Bloomberg. Despite having the most-watched streaming TV show of 2023, "Ted Lasso," Apple TV accounts for a smaller share of the top 10 most popular original streaming shows, according to Nielsen. Spending a lot on shows isn’t necessarily a bad thing; Netflix, which has 277.7 million subscribers and reaches more than 600 million people around the world, spends more than anybody else on original programs. $17 billion to be exact, with the vast majority of its budget on originals in 2024.
