In 1991, a groundbreaking innovation reshaped the eyewear world: Transitions Optical became the first company to commercialize and manufacture plastic light responsive lenses, pushing the boundaries of traditional prescription lenses. This revolutionary dynamic lens, developed through a joint venture between Essilor and the American company PPG Industries, seamlessly adapts to changing light conditions, from clear indoors to dark outdoors. In 2014 Essilor acquired the entire stake of PPG Industries in Transitions Optical and continues today to pioneer light modulation solutions.
