Today is the 30th anniversary of the Violence Against Women Act, bipartisan legislation that seeks to make our nation one where every woman and girl can live free from fear, violence and abuse.VAWA remains just as important today as when it was first passed in 1994 and provides essential funding for our comprehensive services. The current administration is continuing to implement the VAWA Reauthorization Act of 2022’s expanded protections and services, including for survivors from underserved and marginalized communities, as well as investments in prevention, and new protections against online harassment and abuse.💜 #VAWA30 #SupportSurvivors #EndDomesticViolence

Thoughts from our CEO. #EndDomesticViolece
Like so many this week, I have been following the tragic news of 33-year-old Olympic athlete Rebecca Cheptegei’s horrific death at the hands of her boyfriend. Her murder follows the deaths of at least two other high-profile female runners in cases of domestic violence in the last three years in the region. Like far too many places in our world, Kenya has disturbingly high rates of abuse against women. Advocates are highlighting that successful female athletes are especially vulnerable, particularly when their partners seek to control their money and assets in an impoverished area, leading to dangerous confrontations when women assert their independence. We see this same trend here in the United States. In fact, 1 in 4 women (24.3%) aged 18 and older in the U.S. have been the victim of severe physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime. Domestic violence is a global epidemic. We must do everything in our power to prevent it, educate communities, and hold abusers accountable in every country around the world. To honor Rebecca and countless others who have suffered and continue to suffer, let's commit to creating safer environments for all women, men and children. #EndDomesticViolence #GlobalChange #DomesticViolenceAwareness #BreakTheSilence #TheFamilyPlace https://lnkd.in/gUhEGQuu

We are thrilled to honor Jamie Williams with the inaugural Paige Flink Icon Award, presented at the Texas Trailblazers Awards Luncheon! This award, named in honor of the retired CEO of The Family Place, recognizes individuals who unite communities and drive impactful change in Dallas. Jamie is a dedicated supporter of The Family Place, having spent her career improving children's education and driving philanthropic efforts. She devoted the first half of her career to children’s education focused on programs that improved outcomes for children with dyslexia through her work at the Dallas Independent School District, Scottish Rite for Children and Southern Methodist University. In the second half of her career, she was dedicated to the idea that philanthropy has the will and rippling force to become a “giant boulder of change in an ocean” of urgent needs and was honored to help The Moody Foundation’s trustees maximize their impact by finding organizations and building collaborations that empower communities to thrive and prosper. Join us on October 4 at 11:30 a.m. for the luncheon to celebrate Jamie and support The Family Place. Get your tables, sponsorships, and tickets here: https://lnkd.in/dP5AQuNw
