Oncologist burnout is a very real problem that affects all aspects of cancer care - from patient outcomes, to navigators and non-profits. The European Society for Medical Oncology’s (ESMO’s) multinational Resilience Task Force recently made eleven recommendations to address burnout among cancer care providers. From these recommendations, areas of focus included improving organizational communication, ensuring manageable workloads, and using innovative technological solutions to improve access to flexible work solutions for oncologists. We Are Here’s platform is designed to work in tandem with oncologists to address these very issues. We save oncologists time by connecting them directly to the organizations and resources that cater to their patients' needs. We reduce their workload by giving them an expanded ability to address patient challenges, without increasing their time demands. Carolyn Treviño Jenkins and Shea Mencel spent the last three days at Fierce Pharma’s Clinical Summit. Less than 5% of eligible patients participate in clinical trials. There are a lot of complex factors contributing to this low number. We Are Here has helped remove financial barriers for trial participants, which is one of the contributing factors. We were excited to listen, learn and share at the conference. We are also excited to be part of the solution.

Supporters deserve support too. Caregivers play a crucial role in supporting loved ones through cancer, but they often bear a heavy emotional burden themselves. A study recently conducted by JAMA Oncology found that spouses of cancer patients were at significantly higher risk of suicide and death compared to those married to people without cancer. This emphasizes caregivers' needs for their own support and access to resources during and after their caregiving journey. That’s why our platform was specifically built to address the needs of the caregiving community. Caregivers onboarding our platform are met with a custom workflow that takes into account various factors that define their unique situation and needs. We are then able to plug them into our network of resources so that they have the tools to best prepare them for caring for loved ones, and themselves.
