Do You Know How State Trust Lands Are Managed? While there are several types of state-owned lands, the majority are managed as state trust lands. Across 21 western states, more than 500 million acres are managed in trust by states who are constitutionally mandated to generate revenue from the land to support trust land beneficiaries, such as public schools. Management of these lands to benefit public access and enjoyment is not assured in the way it is on federally managed lands. Guaranteeing all Americans quality places to hunt and fish.
About us
In 1912 Theodore Roosevelt said, “There can be no greater issue than that of conservation in this country.” While in the political arena, he succeeded in making conservation a top tier national issue. T.R. had the foresight to address these issues still so significant to sportsmen today, understanding that if we want to ensure critical habitat, special hunting grounds and secret fishing holes will be around for future generations, we must plan carefully today. We guarantee all Americans quality places to hunt and fish by uniting and amplifying our partners’ voices to strengthen federal policy and funding.

This past week, TRCP joined key conservation leaders and policymakers in the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center for a crucial briefing on Wildlife for the 21st Century – a comprehensive set of recommendations from the American Wildlife Conservation Partners (AWCP) aimed at ensuring a thriving future for America’s wildlife and outdoor traditions. The event provided a platform to discuss and advocate for these commonsense recommendations. “We extend our sincere gratitude to the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation for hosting this important event and to all the sponsoring organizations and attendees for their unwavering commitment to conservation,” said Joel Webster, chief conservation officer at the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership and vice chair of AWCP. “By working together, we can ensure that America’s lands, waters, and wildlife continue to thrive for the benefit of hunters, anglers, conservationists, and outdoor enthusiasts nationwide.” https://lnkd.in/eu-AeX4U

After graduating with a degree in environmental biology, Leland Brown started working professionally conducting invasive species management projects and taught himself to hunt on his own time. Since then, Brown has hunted big game and upland birds across the West, most recently in Oregon. After realizing the unintended impacts lead left in carcasses and gut piles of shot animals has on scavenging birds of prey as well as other mammals and birds that feed on the carrion, Brown co-founded the North American Non-lead Partnership, which promotes voluntary best management practices, including the use of lead-free ammunition. Here is his story. https://lnkd.in/edWzTbcb

The Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership opposes the blanket sale or transfer of federal public lands to states. Lawmakers at the federal, state, and local level must be made aware of the strong support that exists for keeping our public lands public and educated on the consequences of eliminating a pillar of America’s outdoor legacy. The Land Manager, The Farm Bill, and January Ducks The Mississippi River Delta is a region rich with hunting traditions and vast, working landscapes. Land managers like Alex Harvey of Legacy Land Management leverage USDA-administered Farm Bill conservation programs to conserve and restore fish and wildlife habitat, expand hunting access, and support farms and ranches. However, the 2018 Farm Bill expired in 2023, and extensions have fallen short. The included programs and funding that must be updated remain stagnant, harming farmers, landowners, hunters, anglers, and conservation programs for wildlife habitat. The Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership is working diligently to help pass an updated Farm Bill in 2025. If you’re a public land hunter or angler in America and have spent any time online in the past month, you know that public land transfer is at the top of everyone’s mind. If you are wondering what could be done to help keep public lands in public hands, look no further than The Public Lands in Public Hands Act. This bipartisan bill is designed to help maintain those lands that hunters, anglers, and other outdoor enthusiasts rely on. Introduced by Representatives Ryan Zinke (R-Mont.) and Gabe Vasquez (D-N.M.) in the 118th Congress and reintroduced in the 119th, the bill aims to prevent certain public lands from being sold or transferred without extra oversight. https://lnkd.in/eEYbQpKD
