Changing who writes history. Celebrating diverse intelligence. Making the world smarter one voice at a time.
About us
The OpEd Project is a social venture and leadership organization, founded to change who writes history. We are a community of journalists, thought leaders, and change agents who actively share knowledge, resources, and connections across color, creed, class, sexuality, gender, ability, and beyond. Through our nationally-recognized curriculum, our team of journalist mentors, and through a portfolio of programs in partnership with leading institutions across the nation and the globe, we accelerate the ideas and impact of underrepresented voices, including women of all backgrounds. We have been covered by most major media. We have stunning results.

“As the teenage daughter of Palestinian refugees, I thought becoming a journalist would let me share my people’s stories with the world. But I soon learned the media landscape wasn’t set up for people like me. I went to graduate school, in part to become an “expert” on Palestine that journalists could interview. But then I learned most journalists weren’t interested in interviewing experts like me. "As a 2018 Tucson #PublicVoices Fellow with The OpEd Project, I learned how to share my expertise and my stories with the world. And I gained the confidence to call out ongoing biases in American media. I was thrilled to see my research cited in Ta-Nehisi’s Coates’ new book, The Message. It’s especially meaningful because his book is an extended meditation on writing that changes the world. Which is exactly what I learned to do at The OpEd Project." - Maha Nassar, a 2018 Tucson #PublicVoices Fellow with The OpEd Project in partnership with the University of Arizona & Women's Foundation for the State of Arizona Learn more about Maha: https://lnkd.in/ej_7DNhK

Today in The OpEd Project's Expert Talk #PitchToPublish, I was reminded that sometimes "no" is a good thing. Many opeds and publications don't land the the first time we submit. We publish by continuing until the yes.

For anyone wanting to to write Op Eds, this will be an EXCELLENT event! I took their workshops, I was mentored by Luis Carassco and I can vouch for the brilliance of Mary C Curtis. Op Ed events are dynamic, well organized, women and minority-focused, inspiring and exciting and accessible (via captions at least.) Strongly recommend. Even their webiste is packed with valuable information and guidance.

Thrilled to be joining The OpEd Project as an Alum Ambassador. The OpEd workshops have been a refreshing way to think about problems that persist in society and how our voices (or our pens) can be used to address them.
