Ganondagan is the only historical site in the state dedicated to a Native American theme, and the only Seneca town developed and interpreted in the United States. Located in Victor, and spanning over 600 acres, Ganondagan is the original site of a 17th century Seneca town. Their Iroquois White Corn is a non-GMO heirloom crop that dates back nearly 1,400 years to the earliest establishment of what is now Ganondagan State Historical Site. Over the centuries it disappeared, but since 2012, the crop has been flourishing again, thanks to a renewed interest in healthy eating and heirloom produce. Members of our DEI Council joined with others from the community to help out at Ganondagan's annual white corn husking bee. The corn will be braided, hung, and dried, and it will then be used as whole kernels or milled into cornmeal. Our team also got to sample cornmeal mush - a traditional Haudenosaunee recipe. Pets on parade! 🐕 Furry friends strutted their stuff at the Westcott Neighborhood Association's 3rd Annual Halloween Dog Parade this past weekend. The half-mile procession around the neighborhood featured dozens of dogs, their owners, and the Second Line Syracuse Brass Band. Following the parade, everyone returned to the library for treats - for dogs and humans! Bowling for charitable dollars! 🎳 We participated in the 2024 Curtin Cup Bowling Tournament - a fundraising initiative in the CNY Chapter of the NY Credit Union Association. Named for Ray Curtin, credit union advocate and staunch supporter of the credit union movement, 100 bowlers from credit unions throughout Central New York made up 30 teams. The annual Halloween Trunk 'n' Treat at Skyview is one of the most popular family events on the Irondequoit Recreation's calendar! This event was a safe way for local families to enjoy the fun of trick or treating, and representatives from our Irondequoit branch were there with a trunk full of candy for 2,500 people who attended the event. Fashion Week Rochester struts for a cause! Fashion Week of Rochester raises funds for The Center for Youth Services, Inc. Center for Youth and as a sponsor of this event, Team Summit was there for all the fun and the fashion. Now in its 15th year, Fashion Week Rochester spotlights local designers, boutiques, businesses and artists while shining a light on youth homelessness. Did you know that all 64 SUNY schools have a food pantry or stigma-free food access available for students in need? SUNY Geneseo's On-Campus Food Pantry provides temporary supplemental food relief to students at no cost. In addition to helping alleviate hunger within the student community, the Food Pantry aims to reduce the impact that food insecurity has on the academic success of their students. Welcome, Orlando J. Ortiz, to The Summit's Board of Directors! Orlando brings a wealth of experience in the real estate and manufacturing industries, as well as a dedication to his community. He currently serves on several local Boards and committees including Foodlink, PathStone Corporation, the Rochester Institute of Technology Alumni Association, RIT Board of Trustees, and is the President of the Puerto Rican Festival – the longest running cultural festival in Monroe County. He was the recipient of the Rochester Business Journal’s “40 Under 40” award in 2020, was named the Next Gen Philanthropist of the Year in 2019, and Business Person of the Year by the Rochester Hispanic Business Association in 2019, among other accolades.    Orlando earned his B.S. in Manufacturing Engineering Technology and his M.B.A. in Operations Management from RIT.
