Hauling in a great harvest! 🧺 Members of our staff have been helping out all season volunteering at Homesteads for Hope. Homesteads for Hope is a non-profit Community Farm and Future Housing Village nestled on 55 acres along the wide waters of Historic Erie Canal in Rochester. Founded on a mission to support other families raising autism, Homesteads for Hope is a nurturing community where people of all abilities thrive, finding purpose and belonging in nature's classroom. They are committed to redefining the boundaries of inclusion, promoting a society where differences are celebrated and where each person is recognized for the valuable role, they play at the Community Farm. Homesteads for Hope also has a CSA that anyone can join, and The Summit has been corporate member for the past two years, receiving amazing produce to share with our staff. Fraud and scams are on the rise and criminals are constantly looking for new ways to rob people out of their hard-earned money. Seniors, as a group, are an easy target, and we are on a mission to empower them against these thieves. Over the past couple of months, we've been traveling to senior centers throughout the regions that we serve presenting free, one-hour sessions alerting participants of some of the most common scams targeting seniors and giving them the tools to avoid being financially compromised by a scammer. Along the way, they've also been sharing their stories with us and each other. Giving Central New York kids a good start for the school year! The 9th Annual Back to School event organized by Mothers & Children in Crisis (MCC) provides back to school supplies and health and wellness materials to the children of families in the Problem-Solving Court system. Over 80 kids from 30+ families served by MCC will now have a good start to the 2024-2025 academic year thanks to the area businesses and agencies that came together to support this event. Every child received a backpack of school supplies, bag of clothes, wellness necessities, and a pair of back-to-school shoes. Additionally, each family received a $50 grocery gift card. We've been a sponsor of the Brockway Truck Show since 2017 and each year, we are bowled over by the crowds who come to celebrate the greatest heavy-duty trucks ever built in Central New York. The Brockway Motor Company operated in Cortland from 1912 to 1977. Founded as Brockway Carriage Work in 1875, the company manufactured custom heavy-duty trucks. Brockway trucks boast a hood ornament of a husky dog with a harness, giving Cortland the nickname “Huskie Town, USA.” This year's show featured activities for the entire family including a Summit-sponsored fireworks spectacular, parade, and the truck show itself with vehicles lining Homer's Main Street. A summer day to remember! 🧺 Our Summit team gathered at Ellison Park this past Sunday for an afternoon of fun, food, and games. CNY Works! In partnership with 100 Black Men of Syracuse Inc. and CNY Works Inc., we sponsored part of the YMCA of Central New York's Boys and Young Men of Color summer internship initiative. Our sponsorship helps to provide YMCA memberships to the Y's youth interns for the summer. These internships are first jobs for some of the young men and as an educational component, we hosted financial literacy sessions as they navigate paycheck management. Reading is FUNdamental! 📘 Our Erie Boulevard branch will be sponsoring the Final Party Celebration on August 14th for the kids and teens who participated in the summer reading program at Petit Library Onondaga County Public Libraries. In addition to a "Chip Taste Test" challenge, activities will include a temporary tattoo station, and sharpie tie-dye shirts. Game on! ⛳ The CNY Chapter of the New York Credit Union Association (NYCUA) hosted the 36th Annual Art D'Amico Memorial Golf Tournament on Tuesday, August 6th at Cazenovia Country Club. This annual tournament is an opportunity for all credit unions in the region to come together for networking and to raise funds for our chapter scholarship fund.
