About us

The Upswing Fund for Adolescent Mental Health is a collaborative fund that provides timely resources to organizations that focus on the mental health and well-being of adolescents of color and/or LGBTQ+ adolescents in the United States—populations that face urgent needs during the pandemic but too often lack access to the care they need. The Fund is seeded by Pivotal Ventures, an investment and incubation company created by Melinda French Gates to advance social progress in the United States; is advised by a renowned set of mental health experts with deep clinical and research expertise and a passion to support youth and communities; and is powered by Panorama, a global action tank committed to solving pressing global problems through strategic partnerships, collaborative funds, and scalable solutions.

    Two Feathers 2SLGBTQIA+ programming strives to offer a safe affirming space with the opportunity for youth to connect with others, explore identity, and learn more about culture and community. Two Feathers Queer Programming came into existence through the voices of queer native students at Hoopa Valley High School wanting more spaces to explore and talk about 2SLGBTQIA+ identity and experience. Through collaboration with community partners, Hoopa experienced its first Rainbow Extravaganza in the summer of 2021. Two Feathers Queer programming has grown and now supports 2SLGBT+ spaces at Hoopa Valley High and Fortuna High School. Starting from a single annual event, Two Feathers is now able to offer more consistent programming from school based spaces, Queer focused Leadership Development work pod, Two Spirit Teachings events, and more! #twospirit #mentalhealth #queerprogramming #2slgbtqia

    Throughout my career I have been trying to find ways to make access easier for mental health. It's been an uphill battle with a ways to go. This week, two new reports came out that highlight the significant access problems for mental health and ways to solve them through policy. Inseparable partnered with Milliman to examine state-level data that was sourced from surveys and claims datasets. This report delves into key dimensions of access: condition prevalence, treatment patterns, and provider availability. In addition, inseparable's own report offers concrete policy recommendations based on the Milliman findings, emphasizing crucial areas for intervention and improvement in mental health care accessibility. Both are worth a read. Both have the potential to make an impact on access.
