Congrats to Renee Collini, Director of the Community Resilience Center at The Water Institute, on co-authoring a paper published last week! About the paper ⬇️ 🌊Coastal areas are constantly being reshaped by waves, tides, storms, and sea-level rise. 🌊A lot of research focuses on these physical processes to describe coming coastal changes, but many studies and data overlook human behavior, limiting the accuracy of projections. 🌊This paper explains the need for evidence-based information on how people behave and four ways that research teams can combine this with our knowledge of natural coastal changes to make better projections of future changes along the coast. 🌊To improve future projections, we need better data on human responses and stronger collaborations across disciplines. This paper is open access and can be read here -> https://lnkd.in/g2wu2bHJ #CoastalChange #ClimateAction #Science #ResilientCoasts #HumanBehavior #ResearchInnovation

Thank you Valerie Rodriguez-Black Esq. for representing The Water Institute in D.C. at the #RAESummit24 and at the White House with the #CouncilOnEnvironmentalQuality where she discussed #coastalcarbon. Coastal carbon is recognized as an approach to assist in reducing levels of atmospheric greenhouse gases in a sustainable and long-term way, but the path forward is laden with scientific and policy challenges. The Water Institute has been working together with experts across Louisiana, the northern Gulf of Mexico, and the world to reduce these scientific uncertainties critical to informing policy updates needed to establish a financially viable carbon accreditation for tidal marshes in Louisiana. Learn more about our work in coastal carbon here -> https://lnkd.in/gHXVmWxr
I had a great week in D.C. at the #RAESummit24 connecting with colleagues on critical issues like #bluecarbon #communitydrivenmigration and #environmentaljustice Thank you Restore America's Estuaries! Thank you to The Pew Charitable Trusts for organizing a productive meeting at The White House conference center with CEQ. It was great to contribute and represent The Water Institute along with experts from around the nation working towards thoughtful blue carbon implementation. #theH2OInstitute

The past few weeks have been challenging for many communities affected by these hurricanes. While the full impacts of the storm won't be understood for some time, our thoughts are with all those affected. In the meantime, we remain dedicated to developing tools that support future preparedness and response efforts.
It has been just over a week since #HurricaneHelene made landfall. Now, as #HurricaneMilton is nearing landfall along the Florida coast, #TheWaterInstitute is running an ensemble of meteorological models through our real-time coastal and compound flood forecast system, #FloodID. FloodID produces storm surge and compound flood hazard maps, time series, and custom decision support products to aid in preparedness and response efforts. Below are the latest forecasts at NOAA gauge stations along the Florida coastline as the early impacts begin to show in the observed data for this storm. We hope everyone stays safe as Milton comes onshore.
