Co Founder and Chief Scientific Officer at The Well HQ

Our work in schools has shown us how powerful it can be to help girls understand their changing body through puberty, and why that matters for sport and health. From girls avoiding participating because of periods, body image issues, kit challenges and breast concerns, to girls not realising their full performance potential because of female-specific nutrition issues, RED-S, injury or burnout; there's a lot going on in puberty, and when that collides with sport and physical activity, girls just don't have the understanding and support they need. And as much as LOVE delivering into schools in person (it's literally one of my favourite parts of my job!!), we know that simply won't cut it if we want to reach as many girls as possible. That’s why I’m so excited to launch our Sport in her Shoes School’s programme- giving PE staff the understanding of how to support girls in sport in a female-centric way; ensuring the PE and sport environment feels like a place where girls truly belong and addressing important gender gaps when it comes to supporting participation and performance in sport. We are determined to avoid another generation of women who are uniformed about their body. We are determined to empower those of who support girls in sport with a better understanding of the female body, and the confidence to use it in practise. We are determined to make a female-centric approach part of the fabric of school sports, and start to make a dent in the stubborn stats which show girls move less, drop out of sport more, and don't achieve their full potential in sport during adolescence. Our annual subscription includes: -For staff development: The CIMSPA endorsed Well HQ Female Body: Puberty Edition CPD Course for teachers and coaches -For collaboration: Each school can nominate a staff Female Athlete Health Lead to join our Sport in Her Shoes community -For Teaching: Teacher resources to bring the topics to life in PE and Sport -For School: Resources to display in school, Posters, Flyers, Assembly guides -For Girls: Student empowerment activities -For Everyone: Webinar series for staff, parent and students -Exclusive offers with our partner brands Subscribing schools will become a ‘Sport in Her Shoes’ school, which certifies that you have worked with us to enact positive change in girl’s sport. Use our Sport in Her Shoes School logo and comms package to tell parents, stakeholders and prospective families about your pioneering support of girls in sport at your school. To become part of our inaugural cohort of Sport in Her Shoes Schools, contact Sophie, hello@thewell-hq.com #womenssport #femaleathletehealth #girlsinsport #gendergaps #schoolsport #empowergirls #cpd #teachers

Had such a great day at Elevate – the B2B event of physical activity yesterday. What I loved was getting to be on stage with Ruth Jackson from The Gym Group and sharing our work. So often we hear about the gender gaps and what we could and should do - but we can now say what we have done to address this. A really honest and open discussion Then I had fairly low expectations for audience attendance at the Pelvic Floor / Gym Floor workshop - it was the end of the day and I've been doing this gig for over 10 years. But it was standing room only and an absolute delight, what a shift in the industry, and I loved going back to my roots, and teaching where the role of trainers is in the world of pelvic health. and lastly it was great to catch up with everyone Sue Anstiss MBE Kate Hannon Ruth Jackson Emma Flood (Assoc CIPD) Laura Travis Oliver Patrick Steve Orton Clayton Herbert Luke Townsend Tara Dillon FCIMSPA (Ch) Natasha Eason (MCIMSPA) Lianne Clark Christien Bird Kelly Newton Sue Wilkie

One HUGE announcement from us Priya Oberoi. Venture Capitalist, entrepreneur, founding partner of Goddess Gaia Ventures and now Senior Advisor to The Well HQ. I first met Priya about six months ago. October 2023. Suffice to say people in VC world weren’t queuing up, but engaging Priya was top of my list and I’m delighted she’s on board. With her credentials, contacts, and commercial nous on our side, we’re beyond ready to scale. Priya’s involvement is validation of us and our mission, but she isn’t running a handout club. This isn’t about charity or ESG-box-ticking. No. This is business. To-date women’s health has been hugely under-funded and under-researched. As a result it’s an untapped market. How untapped? About $1 trillion untapped. Women’s health and wellbeing, and elite athletic performance - both domains on the up and sport is their intersection. Sport is also the key to unlocking their potential as commercial entities, and as vehicles for change. The opportunities here are why funds like Goddess Gaia Ventures want to invest. I still get goosebumps myself when I stop and think what’s possible. From femtech to education; products to partnerships, the potential at home and abroad is astounding. We see it. Our community, colleagues and clients see it. Priya sees it, and someone with her experience and background can help The Well HQ to define it. As an industry, female health makes sense. As a vehicle of change, it does likewise. Inside sport, emphasising female health demonstrably improves the health and well-being of athletes and, best of all, it boosts athletic performance. Female athletes who train with the right combination of knowledge and kit, coaching and culture excel. They hit max. They perform. They win. Winners attract investment and investment powers winners. The commercial case is already there, and one day (in the not-too-distant future), female health education will be standard fare in every sporting system. It’s a question of when, not if. The best time to plant a tree was 30 years ago. The second best time is now. With Priya’s support, we’re ready now. Together, we’re ready to take the mission, the business and the change forward. Second time lucky! On Thursday we hosted an evening with Technogym London, to give 40 wonderful women a chance to focus on them - to learn what their sports bra size is, to learn how to do their pelvic floor exercises, and to learn about their menstrual cycle. Our guests included trainers, coaches, athletes and journalists and everyone learnt at least one thing new - we wanted everyone to leave with new knowledge that they could use for themselves. Because I know that if we don't understand our own bodies we're no where near the potential we can reach to help others. This is my kind of event, the energy was high, we could give evidence based info that people could use straight away and I am really looking forward to seeing where we can take this work with Technogym - a very generous host and an awesome new store. Thank You Clayton Herbert Steve Orton Orna Murray / Ní Mhuirithe Lucy Horsell Tamara Short Dr Bella Smith Maria Aldous
