Hollywood is knocking on Nevada’s door… with Warner Bro.’s new pitch sweetening the pot further. But it’s all riding on tax credit legislation that would expand Nevada’s film tax credit program.  Over the summer it was announced that Warner Bros. Studios Chief Operating Officer Simon Robinson pledged that the media company would commit to a minimum of $500 million in annual content spending, totaling $8.5 billion over the next 17 years, contingent on state lawmakers approving a massive expansion of the state’s film tax credit program next year. (Source: https://lnkd.in/dNu8DYMp) In addition, Warner Bros. would partner with the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and Birtcher Development to fully occupy Nevada Studios. Nevada Studios would be renamed Warner Bros. Studios Nevada and would feature full-service film & television studios along with film & television educational and vocational training centers. To sweeten the deal even further, the studio in Nevada will also include attractions similar to the ones Warner Bros. operates in Hollywood, London and Tokyo.  Currently Nevada offers up to a 15% transferable tax credit to qualifying productions , with uplifts for shooting in rural counties and hiring over 50% of NV resident crews. The program is limited to providing no more than $10 million in transferable tax credits for all film productions in a single year, and credits are capped at $6 million per production. We can confirm no GreenSlate payroll administrators or coordinators were massacred by Art the Clown during the making of 'Terrifier 3'. But Santa? Cannot confirm. 💀 'Terrifier 3' is out now, with the Damien Leone slasher gore-fest already having cut a path through France's box office as the top grossing film on opening night. (Source: https://lnkd.in/eCbrMq6w) That opening night win came despite a total ban of any minors under the age of 18 from seeing the film, which is being hailed as the most gruesome of the series. Fun fact: In an interview David Howard Thornton (Art the Clown) likened Art to a certain cartoon character, "...definitely in my head I kind of see Art as being the Bugs Bunny of the horror world in that way. He's that mischievous, chaotic character that — he even does drag." (Source: https://lnkd.in/eEHeQDHv) #BoxOffice #Movies #Production #Film

SB 422 has been signed into law. Here's what it means for entertainment workers’ use of loan-out companies, and for Motion Picture Payroll Services Companies’ EDD reporting requirements on loan outs. The law, recently signed by California Governor Gavin Newsom on September 30, 2024, protects entertainment workers’ use of loan-out companies and changes Motion Picture Payroll Services Companies’ California Employment Development Department (EDD) reporting requirements on loan outs. Under this new law:   ➡️ Loan-outs will now be formally recognized by the state of California, and the formal definition of a loan out company aligns with the pre-established industry standard. ➡️ It clarifies that the loan-out company is the UI employer of the employee-owners or members who provide services to production companies ➡️ Starting in 2026, Motion Picture Payroll Services Companies will be mandated to file detailed reports for each loan-out company they process, including payment totals, company and individual identification details, and any additional information as stipulated by the EDD, in collaboration with the Franchise Tax Board. For further information and details, please see our full update below. 👇

Missouri is certainly ‘Showing MOre’!  Just one year into Missouri’s revived film and TV tax credit and they are already seeing a “huge uptick” in production according to St. Louis Film Office Manager Kelley Hiatt (Source: https://lnkd.in/eMA4kpdu). Since last year, already 12 productions have been approved for the program. Missouri’s tax credit is proving to be essential to attracting filmmakers to not only film there, but bring post production back to the State. In addition, training and mentorship classes for those wanting to become part of production are offered through organizations such as Continuity, alongside the Film Office. If you're interested in attending a future workshop you can send an email to info@continuitystl.org.
