It was a pleasure to spend the afternoon with some of our favorite clients who do important work supporting survivors of domestic violence. Thanks for inviting us to participate in #WearPurpleDay!

Celebrating Loretta Oleksy! At yesterday's Indiana State Bar Association Annual Summit, outgoing ISBA President Tom Felts awarded Loretta Oleksy the Presidential Citation in recognition of her contributions to the Indiana State Bar Association and the legal profession. In his introductory comments, Tom shared that Loretta was one of his first calls as he prepared for his presidency because of her long and deep commitment to the legal community's well-being, which was one of his areas of focus during his time as President. He also noted that Loretta had connected diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging to well-being for him. It's all interconnected. The work we do is hard because attending to well-being is still often seen as "nice to have" and/or denigrated as a "soft skill." The practices are simple, not easy, and they are practices, not hacks. Attending to well-being takes practice and reps, day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year. Do you know who's been doing this work for over a decade? Loretta Oleksy Congratulations, Loretta, for this recognition for your contributions to our collective well-being!

Heads Up, Legal Professionals: Freely-offered online CLE on Tuesday, September 17! Let's face it, most people don't contact an attorney because they're having the best day of their lives. They likely are experiencing some problem they want you to fix. They may bring with them a torrential downpour of issues: child abuse and neglect, substance use and addiction, mental health issues, employment and housing instability, domestic violence, criminal charges, and more. Bearing witness to the suffering and trauma of your clients takes an emotional and physical toll that can’t be ignored. This one-hour CLE will explore the impact of working with survivors of trauma, identify individual and systemic symptoms of secondary trauma, and generate discussion of what support can look like for individual lawyers and our profession. Join us on Tuesday, September 17 on Zoom for You Can't Walk Through Water Without Getting Wet. https://wix.to/UEX7skk
