I haven’t been to active on any social media platform as of late… so I’m a day behind- but everyday is World Autism Day for me, my treasured coworkers at Thrive Early Learning Center and for every child and family we serve. I will share this picture (circa 2000) every year as it is this little boy, his brothers and their family that stole my heart and changed the trajectory of my life forever. #worldautismday #autismlove

What an incredible loss to our field. My deepest condolences and prayers go out to Dr. Iwata’s family. From entrenching myself in his research, to learning from him directly during my time at Penn State and having the opportunity to attend his conferences in severe behavior, he molded my practices in more ways then I could count. One of the true founding fathers of this science. His life’s work is just immeasurable. 🙏🏻 🩵
Dr. Brian Iwata passed away this weekend. It is hard to overstate his impact on the field. His body of academic work is large and insightful- filled with both scientifically sophisticated and hugely practical solutions to the problems experienced by those with special needs. He mentored an enormous number of students and junior colleagues. So many of us tie our training experience back to him directly or by way of his many students. And for those of us who knew him well, he was a funny, sharp, and strong presence in our lives. He will be sorely missed. My thoughts are with his family and with the larger community that knew him.
