  • Huge shoutout to our amazing team! Recently, several TIC employees volunteered their time to travel to Rwanda – participating in an international bridge build with Bridges to Prosperity to construct the Gataba Bridge. The build included installing towers, cables, swings, decking and other components. It took two weeks for the team to complete the 88-meter suspended bridge that now serves 4,223 community members, ensuring their safety across the Gikeri River. Bridges to Prosperity says these bridges help give isolated rural communities safe access to critical resources like health care, education, or employment, particularly when cut off by an impassable river.

Last month, TIC completed the construction of the Copperhead Solar and Storage Project in Riesel, Texas. The 1,600-acre site will generate 150 MW of solar energy and store up to 100 MW of battery power for the Lone Star state. Construction began in late 2022 and reached peak in spring of 2023 with 330 craft men and women on site. “This team worked 503,000 manhours recordable free. They embraced our ‘Nobody Gets Hurt’ mentality and made it a part of the culture, focusing on a common goal — to safely build a quality project for National Grid Renewables,” said Project Manager Josh Bokenkamp. Joe Ibrahim, vice president of engineering and construction for National Grid Renewables praised the team’s talents and collaboration. “We had a great partner in TIC and appreciate the care, support and pride they gave to the project and the surrounding community. These projects are complex. It was a true TEAM effort.” The team will finalize the commercial operation setup and turnover next month. National Grid Renewables estimates the facility will offset up to 250,000 metric tons of CO2 emission annually. Learn more about the project here: https://bit.ly/3xxR4vK. Congrats to the project team and their dedication to the job!

“If you have a good attitude, a willingness to learn and are committed to working safely, TIC is full of career opportunities.” Carlos Lopez immigrated to the United States from Colombia 10 years ago and was introduced to construction by his brother. His love for math and working with tools drew him to becoming a pipefitter. He joined TIC in 2021 as a pipefitter at the Big Bend Combined Cycle Electric Power Plant in Apollo Beach, Florida. He's now a pipefitter general foreman at the Magnolia Power Generating Station in Plaquemine, Louisiana. “It’s important I keep growing in my career. TIC recognizes those that are dedicated and eager to grow in their role.” He aims to be a part of the company’s Key Craft program, a group dedicated to advancing top-performing craft into leadership roles. Keep up the great work, Carlos. We’re happy to have you a part of our team!

  • Meet TIC’s newest electrical journeymen! Last week, 15 learners completed the company’s electrical Accelerated Journeyman Development Program (AJDP). Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, these employees mastered their technical skills and knowledge, training on their projects, remotely and at the company’s Training Center. Many graduates praised the program for preparing them for their new roles, responsibilities and future advancement. “AJDP is a great opportunity. I now have everything I need to get my journeyman’s license,” said Electrical Foreman Wilmer Caceres. Electrical training is one of seven craft disciplines offered through the company’s AJDP program. Others include concrete, lineworker, ironworking, millwright, pipefitting and solar work. As the company continues to win work in the industrial and renewable energy markets, TIC leadership understands the program's value. “The demand is exciting, but also challenging. We need talented and educated craft professionals. AJDP isn’t just about a job, but a rewarding career path. If you’re dedicated, the possibilities are endless.” — Area Manager Scott Anderson Congratulations to the new graduates! Look out for these individuals on a job site near you.

  • “I moved to the United States from Cuba in 2023. My father, who also works for TIC, introduced me to the trades. I knew it was a great opportunity." Julio Zaldivar began his TIC career last year as a pipe helper at the Intermountain Power Plant (IPP) Renewal Project in Delta, Utah. He recently transferred to the Magnolia Power Generating Station in Plaquemine, Louisiana, as a pipefitter craftsman 1. His dedication and quick learning propelled him into a pipefitter craftsman 2 role. He was also selected for the company’s Accelerated Journeyman Development Program (AJDP) to become a pipefitter journeyman. Since leaving Cuba, Julio always looks for opportunities to improve his fluency in English by helping translate for his coworkers from Spanish to English. “It’s not only helped me, but has also helped our team’s communication and collaboration.” Thank you for your hard work and determination, Julio!

  • Here's a look at the Mill Creek 5 Natural Gas Combined Cycle (NGCC) Project in Louisville, Kentucky. TIC will be improving the coal-fired power facility by adding a 1x1 GE Power Island. This update will help lower carbon emissions and provide surrounding communities with a more efficient energy supply. The project also includes the addition of a new cooling tower, field-constructed water storage tanks and integrating the new power island with the plant’s current utilities and switchyard. “We’re excited to join the Louisville community for this rewarding opportunity. We're looking for heavy equipment operators and laborers to support earthwork operations. Underground utility construction will begin this fall, then we'll be hiring electricians and pipefitters in September for these scopes.” - Project Manager Wayne Wilson Learn more about the project and view the full job openings by downloading the TIC Craft News and Information App at https://bit.ly/3uutK0t.
