What Questions Should Board of Directors Ask About Cybersecurity? Understanding the significance of metrics and KPIs in cybersecurity is critical for board members. The following key points highlight the three essential questions that boards should consider when assessing and managing cyber risks: 1. What is the current cyber risk profile of the organization? ✅ How does the organization's cyber risk profile align with the acceptable risk boundaries established by the board? ✅ Are the risk profiles developed by management consistent with the board's risk tolerance? 2. What is our actual exposure, and how are we reducing it or transferring it? ✅ What is the organization's current level of exposure to cyber risks, and what steps are being taken to mitigate this exposure? ✅ Are there any identified gaps in funding or resources that need to be addressed to achieve an acceptable risk level? 3. What measurable business impact do cyber risks and data exposures present? ✅ What specific quantifiable business impact do cyber risks and data exposures have? ✅ By documenting this impact, the organization can better understand the actual consequences of cyber incidents. The upcoming US election is a concern, with authorities warning about potential ransomware disruptions during voting periods. ✅ Credential Abuse on the Rise: Abuse of valid credentials accounted for 44.7% of data breaches. This highlights the critical importance of robust identity and access management practices. ✅ Cloud Security Challenges: There was a 75% increase in cloud intrusions.
