On Linkedin I see lots of posts about indoor air quality, poor installations, condensation and mould and obviously on the flip side we see companies advertising their work showing us what good looks like which is great and I always appreciate seeing both sides of that coin. Today, I want to extend a thank you to our installers; we primarily make repairs and upgrade ventilation in existing dwellings. Our guys can go through quite a lot on our behalf as they strive to achieve the best for the customers and tenants we serve. Today as part of this they had to navigate around a dead mouse, never a nice experience and not something anyone volunteers to do. The ventilation in this set of pictures shows a Retro fit Zehnder CMEV.4EHT Centair MEV installation completed this week with airflow readings. *My bad I posted the testing trickle airflows rather than the final commissioned airflows - these are shown in teh comments section as the initial airflows were a tad under the requirement - see pictures in comments* This was for a 2 bedroom flat (25 l/s whole dwelling ventilation rate) where intermittent fans were previously installed resulting in condensation, mould and poor indoor air quality. The installer did an amazing job here (in my opinion) as getting into existing loft spaces is never easy and getting the ductwork set up here was pretty tight. Not the easiest image to see but to explain earlier this week one of our surveyors noted at survey that the fan in the kitchen did not have a correct external grille; in fact the original installation (not by us) had located the fan behind a drain pipe resulting in a very small hole (circa 2 inches) as shown in picture 1 (most of the moisture laden air was being pushed into the wall cavity as a consequence). Our installer removed the fan and cored a new hole so that a wall sleeve and grille could be installed correctly meaning the moisture laden air would be removed from the dwelling, the fan was set to meet it's part of the whole dwelling ventilation rate whilst sealing the original hole *see picture 2* *Also great to see our anti-tamper fused spur above the fan* Should you require further information on how TJR Ventilation Solutions can help resolve your condensation, mould and ventilation related issues in your property portfolio please look us up.....we would love to hear from you. Yesterday one of our engineers replaced an MVHR that had failed. As part of the recommissioning process he was able to check the external supply and extract grilles *not always possible if you are 10 stories up and the grille is on an external wall * He found that there was a fly mesh on both grilles that had become blocked as per the picture*. We obviously removed the fly mesh from both grilles. This is a seemingly small thing, BUT this small thing has a massive impact on the longevity of the unit, the performance of the air flow and the indoor air quality for the owner/tenant/occupants. We recently surveyed a 2 bedroom bungalow with an MVHR unit in the loft space.
