A milestone for the AI and open-source communities: there is a new draft definition for "open-source AI" by Open Source Initiative (OSI), as discussed in MIT Technology Review. To qualify as open-source, an AI system must meet specific criteria: - Use the system for any purpose and without having to ask for permission. - Study how the system works and inspect its components. - Modify the system for any purpose, including to change its output. - Share the system for others to use with or without modifications, for any purpose. This definition is paving the way for AI development rooted in transparency, collaboration, and innovation. It aligns AI with the core principles of the open-source movement, making AI technologies more accessible and transparent. For the full article by MIT Technology Review, visit https://lnkd.in/d2MNyRQT Please note that the article may give the impression that the Open Source AI definition is finalized; however, it is still in draft form. A new version of the draft was published just this week. To read The Open Source AI Draft Definition from OSI, see https://lnkd.in/dCwMsXQa #AI #OpenSource #Innovation #Technology

It's that time of year again—#KubeCon, #OSSSummit, and #AI_dev are just around the corner! At Ant Open Source, we are deeply committed to foundational software development. The Ant Cloud Native team has made significant strides this year, and we're excited to present seven topics, including updates on our projects —#Dragonfly, #KCL, and #NanoVisor , as well as our upstream contributions to #Kubernetes and #WASM. I'm also thrilled to be speaking at the OSS Summit for the first time. As the co-chair of this year's OSPO Summit in Shenzhen, I've spent considerable time reflecting on the dos and don'ts of running Open Source Strategies and Operations in today's cloud + AI era. We aim to share these insights to inspire fellow open source enthusiasts to build healthy, sustainable OSPOs. Additionally, Ant Open Source will be hosting a casual happy hour on 8/22 at 5:30 PM for LFAI project members and maintainers near the event venue. Friends and colleagues are welcome! Feel free to reach out to me directly if you'd like to join. 😊
